08-28-2008, 01:02 PMCouple Seeking Romantic & Relaxing Island Vacation-Need Suggestions!
Hi All,
My BF and I (30 something's) are planning a trip for some R & R for early Dec. I have been on this site for some time but am somewhat new. I am hoping to get a feel for those out there what their suggestions are for what we are looking for. A little overwhelmed.
We really want to be somewhere that has amazing beaches and nice resort accomdations. I feel like some many travel agents say that you can't find a 5 star or nice resort in the islands...that it's olderfor those places. We really like the luxury type places. Would like to be in a relaxingresort butthat has plenty ofstuff todo in terms of activites. Also my better half would prefer AI butwe areopen to it becausehe thinks it is just easier.
Thinking: St Martin (Recommendations for Dutch/French?), St Lucia, Antigua, Anguilla
Thanks!
Tara

Hi Tara. Thanks and Welcome! December is a great time in the islands. Hopefully you will be going before the 20th. Prices tend to go up substantially around the 15th of December for the holiday season. Also, many places get booked up way in advance. This is how I would proceed. Pick the island. I would recommend Anguilla or the British Virgin Islands. On Anguilla, for luxury, activites, BEAUTIFUL beaches, great food, etc, I would recommend Cap Juluca or Cuisinart. If you are going to the BVI's, I would recommend Biras Creek or Little Dix Bay. Review the sights. Now, CHECK AIRFARES and connections!! Many of the flights after September have been decreased or stopped. So, many suggestions might not be that great due to the airline situation. For example, I am going to the Caribbean in November and I just received notification that my flight home can't get home in one day and I have to overnight at my expense.
So, start planning soon....Many of the properties get booked quite quickly. Also, review some of the auctions. I do see Biras Creek and Peter Island up for bids!! You might get a really great deal!

It so depends on what your are looking for. For us, our stay at the Nisbet Plantation on Nevis was one of the most relaxing, romantic and enjoyable weeks we have experienced. The beaches aren't huge, but lovely. Nisbet is the only "plantation" resort right on the water, so you have great access to the beach. And the Island, with its heavily wooded 3,000 foot central peak, is stunning. We also enjoyed the charming main community, Charlestown. Nevis also has a Four Seasons resort, but for us the intimacy and scale of Nisbet was ideal.

One word, Saba. Rent a house with a pool, I suggest Hummingbird villa, we stayed there last April. It was incredible and not that expensive. I ate 3 of the best meals of my life on Saba

Jamaica has luxury resorts....I am Jamaican, you can ask me anything you want and I'll give you straight up answers. Negril has the best beaches..but the other beaches are still among the best in the world. Negril does not have 5 star accommodations...there is a Ritz hotel and a couple other 5 star places
