We liked Grenada best when we took a recent Carribean cruise. The people were wonderful and charming and we enjoyed the fact that it was not quite as 'Americanized" as some islands. We are looking at Luxury Link packages there--they have some great ones from time to time.

I guess it really is different strokes for different folks.

Having travelled to more than 20 different caribbeanislands, Aruba ranks at the bottom of my list. I doubt I'll ever go back when there are so many places that have better beaches and much better food.

It is definitely the Las Vegas of the Caribbean.

Interesting, we also were not too fond of Aruba. My favoriteCarribean destinationis the Grenadines - the water is beautiful and there are some unique resorts. Second would be the BVIs, also beautiful.

    Re: GREAT CARRIBEAN DESTINATIONS

I have to say one of my favorite carribean trips was sailing on a "cat" through the BVI's / USVI's stopping at all those little boating islans along the way (Saba Rock, Foxy's, The Baths, and a few others) finally ending up in St. Johns at Caneal Bay, which is beautiful. I f anyone likes boating/sailing this is the way to see the carribean. You can rent 56' cats for about $7500 a week, through the Mooringsand if you can't sail you can hire a captain to do the work for you. I know it's alot of $$$$ but a really unique experience !

My wife and I have been traveling the Carribean and Central America for the past 11 years in search of "the best" using Luxury Link auctions whenever we can (6+ and counting), and would have to say that the BVI, Grenadines, and Belize all qualify. However, there are miles to go before we quit.

    Re: GREAT CARRIBEAN DESTINATIONS

Enewseven, I must say it does sound exciting sailing around on your own catamaran, although, I'm not sure if I am that brave! Did you hire a skippper or did you do it on your own? How much would it cost to hire one? The thought of sailing to the more remote islands and experiencing those virtually uninhabited beaches cerainly sounds very appealling! We have been on a few cruises around the Caribbean but ofcourse you have to stick to their itinerary and a few of the places we were there for such a short time that we never really got the chance to experience them fully. R.scott. I too like to go in search of the "best". Staying in a luxurious hotel in one of the "best" rooms surrounded by outstanding beauty certainly is hard to beat. I always try to choose somewhere which has the "wow" factor. It is my little treat to myself! WhenI am looking for a holiday, I normally go and get lots of luxury holiday brochures and really just look at the pictures. If a picture of a resort or hotel really stands out, then I usually check out the higher category rooms and suites.I always like a room with lots of outdoor space, especially one that has a huge balcony or terrace, preferably with sunbeds on them.I always like to have a wonderful view if possible too. OnceI have chosen the accommodation thenI go on to check out the weather and lastlyI check out the actual destination.First and foremost, though, it is the hotelwhich I go by. I have never booked a holiday via the internet before and ifI was honest, thenI have been a bit aprehensive, but after reading all the posts especially from you who have used L.L. many times,I am now happy to go ahead and book through L.L. There are so many wonderful resorts on here thatI am finding it really difficult to narrow it down to just a few. Thank you luxury link for giving us so many wonderful and luxurious hotels to choose from. Hopefully soon I will manage to choose one and go ahead and book it. Cheers.

    Re: GREAT CARRIBEAN DESTINATIONS

    Hi MaryJ,

I'm not that much of a sailor but learned quite a bit on that trip. My friends and I hired a captain which was great because we had no worries at all, everyone could relax and enjoy the trip. There were 4 cabins, and the captain has one for himself. The cost for the week is about $7500 for the boat and the captain is about $500 per day, but when you split it with a group it's not so bad. We also stayed on some of the small islands at the great little boating inns along the way in addition to sleeping on the boat. Great time though and you could get more information from The Moorings in the BVI's, they probably have a web site as well.

Thanks Enewseven, it certainly is worth thinking about.I will go on to the website and see whatI can find out. Did the skipper help you decide on the route to go or did you just tell him the places you wanted to visit?

    Re: GREAT CARRIBEAN DESTINATIONS

    Hi Mary-J,

The website is www.moorings.com. Just below I put a pic of a similar boat to what we had. As far as the itinerary, if you goto the website they have all sorts of different options. They have many location and you decide where you want to go and have the flexibility to change based on weather, time, etc the captain handles the rest and teaches you how to sail too. Otherwise you can turn on the engines and leave the sails for another day, these cats have both options.
