    Guana Island vs. Mustique

We are planning a 10 year anniversary trip and are debating between 2 current travel offers, Guana Island and Cotton House in Mustique. We like that both seem to be quiet, secluded islands and both are in our price range. We do not have much oppertunity to get away, and are looking for the perfect fit for us. Has anyone been to one or both of these islands and could give us any feedback?

We are also looking some at Laluna in Grenada. This does not have any offers yet for next year, but it looks nice and we were wondering if we should wait for an offer to come up, or just try Guana or Cotton House instead. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Re: Guana Island vs. Mustique

Hi Leasaucoins. Perfect timing!!! I just returned back from Cotton House this weekend and LOVED IT!!! We used an LL auction so it was a great price! The place is perfect. W had a lovely cottage. The food was fantastic and included with the package (breakfast and dinner.) No concern on safety. We rented a "mule" and toured the island everyday. What we really enjoyed was the island was not stuffy or showy as we thought it would be. We spent most of the time in shorts, tees, and bathing suits and then casual resort wear for dinner. I would love to answer any more specific questions you have. I also hope to do a post on the entire trip.

In reference to Cotton House, we are having trouble pricing flights to Mustique. We can find flights to Barbados but are having trouble finding flights to Mustique. How did you get there? Is there more than one flight option? Etc....

    Re: Guana Island vs. Mustique

Hi Lesaucoins: Good question. Just price to Barbados from Boston. Cotton House will arrange and coordinate your flights to Mustique. I believe the price is $450 per person. I think there is a late morning and late afternoon flight going to Mustique and about the same coming back. The best thing is CH does everything for you!!! They even have a rep at the airport in Barbados for you. You have a choice to overnight in Barbados or continue on the same day. We stayed over in Barbados on the way to and the way back. Some of the other guests did it as the same day transfers. It is very convenient. The plane is a 19-seater that takes you to Mustique. Sometimes it is direct and sometimes you stop at other islands. We stopped at Union Island and Canouan on the way over...pretty cool......

Thanks for the information. We are from Louisiana and would probably be flying out of New Orleans or Houston. Have you been to any other small/more secluded resorts in the carribean (such as cotton house) that aremore accessible without the extra connecting flight such as this case? If so, which would you recommend. Thanks.

    Re: Guana Island vs. Mustique

We spend a lot of time in Virgin Gorda and Anguilla. For Virgin Gorda, you would have the same situation with arranging a small connection flight on Air Sunshine. There also is a ferry. In Virgin Gorda area, you would have Biras Creek, Peter Island, Guana Island (that you are looking at)and Little DIx Bay.(also, most of themhave an LL auction.) All properties are lovely and private. In Anguilla, you have Cuisinart, Cap Jaluca, Malliouhana, etc. For Anguilla, you would/could fly to St. Maarten and ferry or fly over to Anguilla. They do have the American Eagle that flies from San Juan to Anguilla but the times are typically very bad. Take a look also at Turks and Caicos islands. There are direct flights to the main area of Providenciales (Provo) and then boat rides to the outlying areas such as Parrot Cay and Meridian Club. The ones I have recommended are on smaller, less touristy islands. There are TONS of choices on St. Lucia, Puerto Rico, Antigua, etc. I just was offering the smaller islands with some neat ideas.

    Re: Guana Island vs. Mustique

Thank you so much! We have been trying to do research for the past few months on what islands and resorts are intimate and secluded, but not too difficult to get to. Your response was exactly what we have been looking for! You have given us a lot to look at and we will spend the next few days researching your recommendations. We appreciate your time and effort and we would let you know what we decide. From Louisiana.......Merci Beaucoup!
