La Samanna can be paired with an Anguilla package. Anguilla is only a 20 minute ferry ride from St. Maarten. Ku is a great property in Anguilla and quite affordable. Or, of course, the beautiful villas such as Sheriva. I have viewed/toured both properties and love them both.
For St. Maarten, there are some great flights from the East Coast direct to St. Maarten. Prices for air are pretty ok.
There are also direct flights to St Maarten from Canada and France and Holland too.
