    Laluna

Ihave just seen an auction which closes tomorrow which I am very interested in. It is Laluna and this resort really appealed to me whenI first came across it long beforeI found L.L. Now it has come up at a really good price and it closes tomorrow. I decided to go and check out flights and saw that Virgin Atlantic fly there direct from London but all the datesI put in it kept coming up as "no flights available". I don't want to risk bidding for it, then perhaps winning the auction, and find out there are no flights. Does anyone know if Laluna is one of the resorts which comes up on a regular basis? ShouldI leave it this time and hope it comes up again at a good price then?I cannot imagine Virgin are fully booked to Grenada for all the datesI put in. It is not that popular with Brits??? Does L.L. offer a cooling off period once you win your bid? So if it turned out that I could not get flights, they would allow me to with draw my bid? I doubt very much they would allow this but thought I would ask anyway!! On the subject of Laluna? Has anyone stayed here and if so what are the beach cottages like? Also how far is it from the airport? Anyone from the UK flown there and how was the flight? Also I like to go when it is fairly hot but i definately don't want to go when it is likely to rain a lot. An odd shower wont bother me butI feel a resort like Laluna really needs to have nice weather to fully appreciate it. hope someone can give me advice on what to do. I have until tomorrow to make up my mind. To bid or not tobid???

    Hi Mary J:

Very funny I've been eying Laluna as well I noticed recently here in the states tha some of the airlines (Air Jamaica) have been adding more routes to Grenada. In 2005 if you recall, a hurricane wiped out many of the resorts there and now they are just starting to come back on line so keep checking your local Caribbean airlines.

Also take a look at that auction for Spice Island, that place looks beautiful too !!

    MaryJ-

I have seen LaLuna come up for auction for quite some time. So I would definitely work out your flight possiblities first...then bid. I am thinking that perhaps the Virgin flights are only at high season/winter?

I've also been intrigued by LaLuna. I love the Balinese style...and I'm a sucker for a private plunge pool.

    Re: Laluna

Me too! since the first time we had own own pool I feel let down now ifI don't have my own pool. The best place we have stayed with our own pool was Al Maha in the desert in Dubai. We even had Arabian oryx and gazelle as our guests some nights. They would come up and drink from it when we were indoors. It was so peaceful lying just floatingin the pool with nothing but desert for miles. We will have our own pool when we go to Phuket too so looking forward to that. Which resort for you has the nicest private pool? Maybe you can give me some tips on where to go next? Cheers

    Hi Mary-

The best plunge pool exprience we have had so far was the Evason Hideaway in Nha Trang, Vietnam.

It was so great because it was only steps between the pool and the beach. The beach is just beyond the bushes in this pic. The water color looks a bit strange here but it was great.

Other Luxury Link hotels with private plunge pools I'd like to try:

    ViceRoy in Bali

    Royal Pita Maha in Bali

And Sonvea Fushi in the Maldives

Just look at that pic of the Royal Pita Maha!! It looks so amazing. I too am thinking of Maldives but so far my favourites are Hilton or One and Only Reethi Rah, but if a good price came up for Sonevi Fushi then I would consider that too. I am really impressed with the properties in Bali but feel it may just be too far to travel from the UK.

    Re: Laluna

    Hi Mary:

I am sort of late answering your message, but anyway here is my impression. To answer one of your questions LaLuna bid comes often at this time of the year. My wife and I stayed at LaLuna about 2 years ago and we went during the month of July. The resort has over 16 cottages that are sprawled over the side of a mountain facing the ocean. There is one cottage at sea level which is their premium one and not included in the LL package. All the others are over a steep hill for which you have to climb several stairs to get to them. The cottages are very exquisite and nicely decorated. the front porch has a day bed and the plunge pool which is maintained daily. Christine (manager) is a lovely lady and very attentive to your needs. The beach is nice and the drinks are great! They have a great open lounge with sofas and day beds next to the bar and the pool where you can spend the day enjoying the view and the breeze.

Our only complaint of the hotel, was the dinners. The hotel chef is Italian and has a main Italian theme in the dishes, rather than make some Caribbean dishes!. There are some Asian inspired dishes which were not that great either. The recent reviews however have mentioned the restaurant being good, so maybe they has improved their style. Overall the hotel is lovely and if you are looking to spend nice quality time this is one of those places. there is not much of a nightlife except for some of the guests staying in the bar area socializing among them otherwise you need to take a taxi to go elsewhere since the hotel is rather distant from everything else. Hope this reply helps.

PS- a the end of the beach there is a restaurant called the Beach House, we went there one night (walking on the beach) for dinner and the food was excellent! Worth trying!

thank you Jimena for that info. It is very much appreciated. Are the pools a good size and how much outdoor space does each villa have? Are the views from the villas on the hillside good and do some have better views than others? thanks

    Re: Laluna

The plunge pools are not too big, 2 people can go in comfortably but it is just that, a plunge pool. Just to cool off. At night we use to sit in it and look up to the stars. The outdoor space is large enough that is not crammed, remember that there is a day bed and you have also several cushions and a chair to sit. Not all cottages have great views. #1 is the one on the ground and is sort on its own, quite private. #2 is right next to the road but it has some view, 3 & 4havebig trees in front of them so the view is obstructed. These are the ones with less steps to climb. There are several of them that are higher and complete clear views of the ocean! I forgot to mention the bathroom are also sort of outside. They are private in a sense but have a half wall on the side so you can get a nice breeze. They have straw blinds that you can bring down for privacy. The toilet is in its own separate enclosed area, totally private. Please let me know if you need additional information. We also took a tour of the area. At that time they were recuperating from the hurricanes from the year before so some areas were quite devastated, but they have falls to see and a lake up in the mountains. There is a chocolate factory in the north coast which we did not make due to rain on the days that we planned to do, but I heard it was worth the trip.
