    mustique

I have just been looking at The Cotton House in Mustique and absolutely love the sound of the sea-front suites. Has anyone stayed at this resort, especially in one of these suites? Also, I really do not know very much about Mustique. Can anyone tell me more about this destination. I think this is where Mick Jagger has a home? Am I correct?

    Re: mustique

Hi Mary J. We sailed from Young Island to Mustique and overnighted it on the boat. We were able to tour Mustique with a "mule".(like a motorized golf cart.) I love this island and did bid on the LL auction for Cotton House. First, the island is beautiful. There are so many beaches to choose from. Most transportation is by "mule". There are only two main "hotels" on the island; Firefly and Cotton House. For Restauarants, I am aware of Basil's Bar..(lots of fun! more casual, great atmosphere), and the restaurants at Cotton House (and I guess Firefly...didn't see the property.) There are also beautiful villas to rent. I would definitely go back. It is alittle more travelling to get there. Typically from the East Coast, you would fly to Barbados or St. Vincent. I checked the schedules and I wasn't that impressed! Then you take Mustique Air or (I believe) St. Vincent air to Mustique. The airstrip is very small. I also just read that you can ferry over from St. Vincent. Hope this helps. I think the Cotton House would be a great vacation.

Hi Mary J. Yes, the island is VERY small. Most transportation is by "mule" (like a golf cart.) I would definitely stay a week or more! What do you like to do on vacation? On Mustique, you would have tennis, sunning, snorkelling, relaxing, and day sails in the Grenadines. As to adding on another destination, you could consider Young Island off of St. Vincent. I personally like the relaxation and would just stay on Mustique. (also, not alot of people.)

    Re: mustique

Bonniejoy,I love to sunbathe and relax, especially in beautiful surroundings with stunning views and do prefer it not to be too busy. We would love to just investigate the island and getting around on carts sounds like my type of place. That sounds good too, just going sailing to one of the other islands. The main thingI check out first is the weather soI would need to make sureI went when the weather was nice and warm and when it had least rainfall. Yes, mustique does sound like my sort of place. Any advice on were to stay? Also, is it expensive to eat out? Thanks.

    Re: mustique

Hi Mary J. If you love to sunbathe, Mustique is for you!!! It is definitely not too busy. Mostly guests at Firefly, Cotton House, and the villas. Boats do anchor in the water at night but not alot of crowds. The "mules" are GREAT! I can even handle one myself! For staying there, you can rent a villa. (check out WIMCO. They are alittle pricey in Mustique. The only two choices of lodging other than the villa would be the Cotton House (lovely) and the Firefly (heard great things.) Cotton House has been on the LL auction site (tried to bid but lost!). Firefly is smaller. Check out Firefly's web site. I believe they will be opening a property in Bequia. (in the Grenadines relatively close to Mustique.) I believe they are purchasing an existing property and remodeling. It looks nice and seems alot less expensive than Mustqiue. For eating out, you really don't have alot of choices. Basil's Bar is on the water and normal prices. It is also a lot of fun and probably the center of the "nightlife". Not sure of Firefly. Cotton House has a restaurant. Not sure of other choices. Hope this helps and if you go...TAKE ME!

Hi there mary-j. If you want to combine the trip with a stop at another island in the Grenadines, you might like Petit St. Vincent. It's a private island, with just the one resort. Food is included. You would havea lot of privacy and outdoor space. I think that was something you were looking for. www.psvresort.com/

    Re: mustique

Disneygal, I absolutely love the look of Petit St. Vincent. You are right. Itis just what I am looking for-very private and the cottages look like the have lots of private outdoor space. I am going to do more research into this resort asI am very very impressed with it. I had heard of this resort before but never really paid any attention to it. Do you think it would be better to combine it with another resort or do you think it would be fine to just stay there for the full duration? Do Luxury Link feature this resort? Thanks for the suggestion.

    Re: mustique

Hi mary-j - I saw this property a few years ago on LL, but not since then. I don't see it in the portfolio now.

If you want to relax and not do much else, it would be a great place. You have your own little cabin with your own private section of the island and beach. If you need more activity then probably better to combine it with something else. We were there on a day trip from Palm Island a few years ago and my husband really preferred Petit St. Vincent. So I keep watching for it on LL also. If they will offer a feature to request a property on LL, I wouldrequest this one.

    Re: mustique

I recently took a non LL sailing trip and overnighted in both Mustique and PSV. Both places were lovely, but I prerfered mustique as there is more to do there (another vote for dinner at the Firefly restaurant). Also, the accomodation at PSV looked a bit dated in a country club kind of way. Of course, the beaches on both islands are amazing.

But should you vist either place, do try to make a day trip to Tobago Cays.....absolutely one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen....picture turquoise water and uninhabited islands, like the Maldives or Bora Bora, but in the Caribbean. Have a great trip. I'd love to try the Cotton House some time and the LL packages are a great deal, of course.
