Hi, anyone been to Ocho Rios Jamaica? I’m stopping there on a cruise in the fall and am looking for advice. It will be my first time in Jamaica. I want to either do a nice tour or find a really good beach to hang out at. I don’t mind going to a resort and paying for loungers for a day. Do any resorts in Ocho Rios allow that? I just don’t want to end up at a crappy beach crowded with every single other person from the ship or multiple ships because it happens to be the closest beach to the port. I’m looking to escape the norm. Any advice would be appreciated!

Be careful in Ocho Rios
I lived in Jamaica for three years and my advice is to be careful in Ocho rios and Montego Bay. Basically both of these cities were built for cruise ships and as the largest tourist destinations on the island you end up with a high percentage of hustlers and criminals.
It's definitely best not to wander around town or to trust anyone. I have seen and heard of all sorts of scams to get people to pay money. Some local tour guides will quote you a price and then deviate from the original plan. They will then expect and exorbitant amount of money to get you back to the cruise ship or threaten to abandon you is some far off location. Book your tours with a JUTA certified guide and verify they are licensed and insured. The cruise ship or your travel agent should be able to help with that.
