07-14-2012, 10:03 AMQuick getaway help
My wife and I are planning on a 4 nt getaway in November. We really want to go somewhere where it will take up most of the day to get there. We would prefer all inclusive but it is not a requirement. We also want somewhere that it will be warm, which unfortunately will probably eliminate Bermuda. We had thought about Paradise island, but are not too excited about going to a busy place with a lot of kids running around. We are going to get a break from the kids and relax. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I assume you mean that do NOT want take all day to get there....Where are you based?
Some of the LL AI's in Riviera Maya Mexico are great. Upscale properties that we've enjoyed are Hacienda Tres Rios (3 times there) and recently Villa Del Palmar in Nuevo Cancun. Thepiranha has been to Casa Turquesa but it isn't AI. We've been to many others that LL doesn't sell--several of the Palace resorts, as well as Coba and a few odds and ends. Viva Wyndham and Occidental were the least suitable for us. We've also done 2 in Cozumel.
What do you like to do? Tres Rios has built-in excursions on property--snorkeling in cenotes, tours of the reserve, etc. Great chef, Oskar will feed you well.
What about Costa RIca? There are some great LL pkgs there."wherever you go, there you are"

Hi W and welcome. Which airport will you be departing from? (this might help with some location suggestions.) Costa Rica is a great suggestion. I highly recommend El Silencio lodge. It isn't on the beach. It is a nice escape for outdoor activities. Meals are included but not drinks. The weather should be nice and it is an easy trip from most airports. Also, LL has some great packages. Florida and Arizona would provide a nice getaway.

07-17-2012, 02:08 PMWe are flying out of Raleigh/Durham. For the most part, we mainly just stay at the resort and relax. It depends on the feel we get for how safe we will be outside of the resort. When we went to the Dominican a couple of years ago and some of the guards outside a few of the resorts had guns, so my wife was a little afraid to do any excursions. This trip we will probably not do any excursions since it will be a shorter trip and we are taking it for a little relaxation away from the kids.
I had thought about Arizona but we are going in Nov and it will not be as warm as we would like. I have never thought about Costa Rica. How are the beaches there? Unfortunately my wife is not a big fan of Mexico so that knocks those out. Two that we are looking at in the Dominican is the Paradisus Palma Real and Zoetry. Also, the Couples Tower Isle.

The beaches in CR are typically black sand. Most of the resorts are on the Pacific side. There is typically more "wave" activity so it isn't as tranquil as some beaches. What about Turks & Caicos??? You might have direct flights. We love the Ocean Club properties. LL has added some T & C properties. The beaches are BEAUTIFUL. Very soft sand. The resorts on T & C are not typically surrounded by guards. You can go and explore.

07-21-2012, 02:41 PMThanks for the input. We are seriously considering the Paradisus Palma Real in the DR. I do have a question regarding the listing on LL. We are going to 5 nights but the auction is only for 4 nights and there is not a buy it now option with 5 nights. How will that work? Would we just pay the hotel the difference for the extra night? Also, the room category listed in the auction is not what we want, would we just pay the hotel a fee to upgrade to the level we would want. Or would it just be better to not get it from LL if we chose this resort?
Thanks
