Re: Sand flies and other insects
Thanks for these responses to my question about the creepy crawly and biting things. I had been considering Antigua, but was concerned that glowing property reports always seemed to mention mosquitos and sand flies as the major negative. So, for this trip I decided on the BVIs. Of course we'll be prepared for some insects there too.
I would love to travel to the Seychelles - Banyan Tree looks amazing. Hopefully at some point the schedule will allow for that.
Wishing you all pest-free travel!

Hi Disneyal. Guess this is the Guana Island Trip....LUCKY!! I would still bring Skin so soft lotion and also Skintastic for no seeums. Seems like in the area, around dusk, they come out. What month will you be going?

Yes, we'll try to be prepared! The trip is planned for November, so it could still be rainy I guess. The cottages on Guana are up on the hillside, so hopefully the insect problem will be less than one would experience with a beachside accomodation. We'll find out!

Re: Sand flies and other insects
I'm sure glad I found this topic as I just read a review from St. Lucia that discussed all the bugs and bites from the night time. Does anyone know or have any experience being in St. Lucia at this time and getting "bugged out" ! Please let me know and if anyone has any great products that will ward off these bugs (Citronella candles, OFF, etc) please feel free to share them with me as I'll be vacationing there in 4 weeks from now. Thank you in advance !

Dear friends ; I've travelled throughout the Caribbean and there are definately fewer bugs in the Southern Antilles such as Anguilla, St Martin, etc. Also I've heard that Aruba also has fewer bugs (never been there) . I suspect it's due to the to the slightly drier climate and windier conditions in all the southern islands. ....David Li

Re: Sand flies and other insects
Hi Davidwli. We just returned from Anguilla on Monday. I returned with only a few bug bites. The reason is the rain issue. There had been no rain during the month of May. Because of no rain, there weren't alot of bugs. We typically have this problem at sunrise (while we play tennis) and sunset. When we did have 1 hour of rain on Friday, the bugs came out!!!
Here I am during the whole 1 hour of rain during our 10 day visit!
