St Lucia - Getting there ?
Does anyone know of a ferry from any of the other nearby larger islands to get to St. Lucia ? I don't like flying on prop. planes so I'm looking for an alternative...

Re: St Lucia - Getting there ?
I know you can get a ferry/catamaran from/too Martinique and Dominica. The other option would be to do a cruise as most of the big cruise lines visitstop of at the ports of Castries and Soufriere. I am not sure how you would get there mainly by sea other than a cruise but I think most cruise ships only stop there for the one day. There may be a cruise linewhose itinerary ends in St. lucia, I don't know. Maybe someone else on this forum will be able to help with more info.

I've heard of helicopter transfers to St. Lucia, does anyone have information on this ?

Re: St Lucia - Getting there ?
Yes, the company is called St. Lucia Helicopters and they will do transfers fom the airport. You have to arrive before dusk as they do not fly if it is starting to get dark. We actually just made it as our flight had been delayed, if we had been around 30 minutes later they would not have taken us.We booked it over the internet. No problems at all. We are glad we booked it as we were staying at one of the Sandals resorts which we had been at previously and the road transfers took us about one and a half hours and the helicopter took around fifteen minutes. the company also does sightseeing tours. They have a website and that gives you all the info you need. Hope that helps.

Hi Mary-J,
Perfect ! This is exactly what I was looking for. I will check for the website right away, did you make helicoper reservations before you arrived or did you just show up to the terminal at the airport an request a trip ?
My Fiancee and I are very much interested in booking our honeymoon in St. Lucia so this may be the final piece of information we were looking for to make this destination viable for us !
Thank you.

Re: St Lucia - Getting there ?
Enewseven, I think it would be best to book before you go.You can book your return trip at the same time so then everything is organised before you go, that's if you want to use the helicopter for the return trip too. Saying that, if you want to go by road instead on the return journey then it is a good idea because the scenery in St Lucia is beautiful and going by road actuallyallows you to see the countryside more although you will have magnificent views from the helicopter too. We decided on the helicopter as we knew we would be tired from our long flight from the UK and as it was our second visit to St.Lucia we had already seen the island so decided on the helicopter transfer. Have you decided on which hotel you are staying at? If you do go to St.Lucia i can tell you more about the excursions we did, if you are interested. To me, St. Lucia is the most beautiful of the Caribbean Islands.

Hi Mary-J,
We're looking at The Jade Mountain Spa, which looks amazing. I would love to hear some of the excursions there as well as any places to eat in the area. Did you fly into a larger airport first and have to board a prop to St. Lucia or you flew in directly from the UK ?

Re: St Lucia - Getting there ?
Enewseven, that is so bizarre! I was just about to reply to your post to say that we had stayed at Sandals Grande St. lucian both times but if I was to go again, I would probably go for Jade Mountain. Doesn't it look spectacular? I cannot believe those views you get of thePitons from your suite.Absolutely spectacular. I am so envious of anyone who has the pleasure of staying there.

Unless you're island hopping you will not be on a small plane. There are 2 airports and many airlines from major American cities, like Miami and Philly, and I believe from Canada and European airports.

Re: St Lucia - Getting there ?
Hi Skurtzman,
Thanks for the info about St. Lucia, I'm still looking at flights, and have no problem transferring to a smaller jet, it's those small prop planes my fiancee has a problem with. Hopefully if we solve this problem it looks like our honeymoon will be in St. Lucia.
