03-24-2007, 07:27 AMWaterloo House in Bermuda...has anyone stayed here?
I was looking at an offering on LL for Waterloo House and it looks lovely. I've been to Bermuda several times and am familiar with its location. But the reviews on TripAdvisor are mixed (and none of them more current than thelast 8 months or so). Has anyone stayed there? Any idea how long it's been since the last renovation? I'd love to have more information before I make a decision.

Hi Fred - never stayed there but we are trying an LL property in Tortola this spring that also had mixed reviews elsewhere. I'm confident that LL has a good rapor with these properties and hopefully my intuition is correct and all will be GREAT. One property in Bermuda to consider would be the Reefs Fabulous location on Horsehoe Bay and a beautiful place. They often have specials - also check out their sister property in Nevis called Nesbit Plantation. Both Bermuda and Nevis share staff and often rotate staff - tough job huh? When we stayed in Nevis the chef just arrived from the Reefs and we dined on the best food ever. Have a nice vacation ...Funtimes

Oh I know where The Reefs is! Years ago, we spent our honeymoon at the Sonesta which is right next door (I think it's a Wyndhamnow, I know it was heavily damaged by the last major hurricane). It is a fabulous location.
Like you, I trust LL to screen the properties they offer and I haven't been let down yet, so the TripAdvisor entries would not necessarily deter me. But it's always nice to hear from someone who's been there. LL is also offering a package at Pink Sands. Sounds like a fabulous location and I'm wondering if anyone has stayed there as well.

Actually I think its called the Pink Beach Club - Yes I've stayed there ...Fabulous! As you know the beaches are a shade of pink-sortof. The LL package there looks wonderful - a bit pricey now the auction bids are rising but worth it. Pink Beach Club is a five star in my opinion. Another property I've stayed at in Bermuda is the Lantana Colony Club - Great! It was a long time ago so you'll have to check if it is still there - very nice cabin type arrangements - free watersports - sailing etc Croquet on the lawn too! Enjoy ...Funtimes

You're right...I meant Pink Beach. I've been keeping an eye on that auction and I'm happy to hear you stayed there. How long ago? And how was the food? I hear mixed reviews about the dinners, and since the auction includes all meals, if I'm gonna eat there every night, I want to know it's good.

I was sad to learn that the Sonesta/Wyndham is no longer. I spent my honeymoon there years ago and they closed it in Oct. to make way for condos.

hello - we stayed at Pink Beach Club 6 years ago. I know friends who gave been more recently and their reputation remains top notch They have a beautiful veranda overlooking the beach and I recall the food being good. I wish I could get some sherry pepper sauce that is so prevalent there. Remember the sherry pepper sauce they serve with soups in particular but eat on anything including scrambled eggs Delicious! Hope you win the bid - last I ;ooked it was up to $2800. Good Luck!

I haven't bid yet...I'm still watching. But I do remember the sherry pepper sauce. Outerbridge's is (or was) the brand name. I used to have a bottle of it in my kitchen for the longest time. I'll bet you can mail order it.
I did hear that Trimingham's on Front Street closed. That made me sad.

Hi,
I live in Bermuda and have stayed in Waterloo House overnight, and had many lunches there. I hosted my hisband's 40th b'day party there, in their private function room, which was lovely. The hotel is small and cutsy (lots of chintz, antiques and paint effects), with laid back (read SLOW) service which is fairly typical of Bermuda. I recall the rooms are pretty small. It's located in town, on the water, beside the marina. Great for wandering around town, but as one poster suspected, Triminghams has closed down, as has the store next to it on Front Street - Smith's, and the site is currently a construction site (for new building for HSBC). This all means shopping opportunities in Bermuda are more limited than they used to be. Bermuda has, in my opinion, the nicest beaches in the world, BUT Waterloo House has no beach access....that's a bus or taxi ride away, and only a tiny pool which I've never seen anyone swim in. I don't think there's any gym facilities either. The food is typically good, if overpriced. Hope this helps!

I stayed at the Waterloo House over the July 4th, 2007 holiday. I can tell you it is a very tired property that is really in need of a lot of repair. Rooms were very wore, shower leaked and the toilet ran on two of the five nights we were there. I have pictures if you are interested. I have been meaning to get them posted on TripAdvisor but just have not gotten around to it yet.
Not a horrible property. But no great deal either.
