Re: Where to Go in the Bahamas?

A lot of people like to go to Grand Bahama island. I went there with my kidsabout 5 years ago. We had a fantastic time and loved it. The next year we went to Grand Exuma and we have returned every year since. We have stayed at both the Four Seasons and at the Grand Isle Villas. I highly recommend both. There wass something for everyone from golf to beach to gourmet food.

Re: Where to Go in the Bahamas?

I have been to Nassau, a couple of times, stayed at the Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort, both times. I would stay there again, if we went back. There are plenty of activities or you can sit by the pool and relax and enjoy the sun and drinks. It tends to be a younger crowd, a lot of honeymooners, but my husband and I didn't feel out of place, being a little older than the average. We have gone to visit The Atlantis Resort, on Paradise Island, which is suppose to be nice to stay at. During our day visit we really enjoyed the aquarium that you can tour and the casino. It appears to have a huge water park that looked fun, but we didn't go to. The actual town of Nassau we found to be clean and we felt safe wondering around. It is an easy bus ride to get to from the resorts.

Enjoy your trip where ever you go.

Re: Where to Go in the Bahamas?

It would all depend upon what type of vacation you are looking for?

The "beaten path" with larger hotels with five star options, gambling, shopping and many restaurant options I am sure you will findwhat you are looking for in either Nassau or Grand Bahama. You will also find crowds though, especially when the cruise ships are in.

If your taste is for the uncrowded, off the "beaten path" and if you are more adventurous and may want to explorethen I would say one of the out islands. Having traveled numerous times to the Bahamas, I would say the Abacos, Harbour Island or the Exumas would fit that bill. The Exumas being the more remote of the three but in my opinion the most beautiful area of the three.

If you are unsure, then I would say try a few days on Paradise Island, and then take the Fast Ferry over to Harbour Island for a few moredays. That way you will get a flavor for both and get an better idea for your next trip.

Re: Where to Go in the Bahamas?

At the risk of having the community trying to outbid me on this one - Bluff House on Green Turtle Cay off Abaco is a wonderful destination. Bluff House is currently listed on LL. It has been quite some time since I've been there, but I'll never forget wishing with all my heart to someday return there. It is a very special property - a bit difficult to reach, Nassau to Abaco then ferry to Green Turtle Cay, but worth the trip. No hotel keys were usedwhen I was there. There was an honor bar also! Management said - if someone shows up in town with a $50 bill then we know who did it ...meaning very little crime and no need for room keys. You really feelaway from it all here. You can rent a sunfish and sail to small uninhabited islands or go with Lincoln Jones on a fishing - grill lunch adventure of a lifetime. The meals at Bluff House were served by candlelight and you were frequently seated with other guests - many from yachts moored in the bay. A large reef on the opposite side of the island made for great snorkeling. Phones were a rarity also. Whatan adventureto be that remote ...Funtimes

Re: Where to Go in the Bahamas?

I too have stayed at the Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort and Spa and really liked it. They also have their own private island which you can reach by boat from the resort within about 5 minutes. Although we stayed in one of the highest category rooms(Windsor suite) which was stunning with stunning views, we did see one of the lower category rooms and they were very nice too. The resort is well situated and although it can be quite busy at times, at Sandals resorts there is always somewhere quiet where you can just chill out away from the crowd. The pool area is very nice with large Romanesque columns and the spa there is among one of the bestI have tried. It was my husband's 40th birthday while we were there and they surprised us one evening at dinner with a beautiful cake and chocolate covered strawberries and champagne waiting in our room when we returned . The choice of restaurants is excellent, as is the food and the staff are so friendly and genuinely happy to see you and nothing is a bother for them. I would definately consider this resort for your stay in the Bahamas.

Re: Where to Go in the Bahamas?

We just won our bid to Bluff House and are looking forward to our trip - it sounds like yours was dreamy. There is a message board for Abaco which is basically a forem for travels in Abaco - all of the reviews of Bluff House are as positive as yours - I hope things haven't changed much.

Can you tell me more about what to do on GTC? Or if you traveled to any of the other cays?

    Thanks
