When I went in the past (August 2 or 3 years ago) I visited Novalja on the island of Pag, Zagreb, Hvar, and Split. Novalja is more for young people and parties. But it was very relaxed and fun. The drive along the coast back to Zagreb was beautiful.
Hvar was an amazing place, and I absolutely loved it. I can't wait to return. I actually stayed at the Amfora Grand hotel there, which used to be offer by LL, but I noticed that it isn't anymore. It is probably the nicest resort in the town of Hvar and the only one with a pool. The views from the hotel are wonderful and it is in a perfect position, right on the sea, and within close walking distance to the old town and harbour where there is a great buzz of people and lots of restaurants and bars. In the narrow streets of Hvar town there are lots of adorable little shops. The town square is beautiful. I also suspect that Hvar town may be the most upscale and expensive in Croatia. But that is still inexpensive compared to some other European resorts like the French Riviera.
My favorite part of our stay was renting a tiny boat for the day in the Hvar harbour. It only cost about 80 euros for the entire day, which is dirt cheap. With the boat you can go to the tiny outlaying islands near Hvar town. There are no cars or towns on these islands, just a very popular beach club, and some restaurants (only reachable by boat). We had a fantastic lunch at one of the restaurants. I highly recommend the boat rental. We did not get a change to explore the island of Hvar but I thik that would also be a great thing to do. I hear it is very beautiful. It even made T+L’s list of top 10 islands in the world.
I’ll post about the other islands when I get back.. so excited!! :)
