Germany - Frankfurt - Schirn Kunsthalle - "Wie im Traum: Odilon Redon" to April 29, 2007
"Wie im Traum: Odilon Redon" Exhibition
This exhibit presents a survey of the French Symbolist's work with more than 200 paintings, drawings, lithographs and pastels. In his early creative years Redon (1840-1916) distanced himself from Impressionist studies of color and light effect and created a pictorial corpus which, predominantly black and white, reflected his inner experience. In the 1890s, he turned again to luminous colors to evoke, rather then depict, elements of religion and nature. www.schirn.de

Re: Germany - Frankfurt - Schirn Kunsthalle
Hi L
What an intriguing line-up of different exhibits! Any one of the seven up-coming showings at the Schim Kunsthalle in Frankfurt between now and June 2008 would be well worth a visit. But, I think the current one showcasing the art ofRedon, which is on until April 29, may be the highlight, if this painting of his below is representative of his body of work. It's magnificent. I'd head to Frankfurt if I was anywhere nearby in Europe. Thanx.

Re: Germany - Frankfurt - Schirn Kunsthalle
Hi Curt,
My husband is visiting with friends in Germany not far from Frankfurt right now, and they are taking him to Frankfurt tomorrow morning. I sent him a e-mail telling him to see if they can make it to the Schirn Kunsthalle. Thanks for posting the picture of Redon's work. I agree it looks quite interesting. I am off to Nuernberg tomorrow where I will meet up with my husband in the evening, and after a few days in Nuernberg we will go on our bike trip along the Inn River to Innsbruck and back into Southern Germany for some hiking and more biking. I will be out of commission til May 22.

Re: Germany - Frankfurt - Schirn Kunsthalle
Hi Liane
Hope your hubby gets the chance to see Redon at the Kunsthalle. As I noted elsewhere in another reply to one of your posts, I'm very envious of your ambitious biking/hiking jaunt through parts of Austria and Germany, especially when you'll be in Innsbruck and head up into the higher elevations close to where Oetzi may likely have wandered some 5000 years ago. WOW! Look forward to hearing from you again on your return in May. Bon Voyage!
Curt
