Malta anyone?

Thanks for your reply. We do not plan to rent a car in Valetta, so it is good to know that you can get around on bus while in Malta.

We were very happy we did not rent a car! The Maltese are not the best drivers in the world and I have limited experience in driving on the other side of the road.

For the most part we did ok using local bus service. There was one incident where we waited over 1h 30m for a bus that should've been servicing the area every 30 min.

Our airport taxi driver suggested a tour that he could put together for 80 Euro. Looking back, we should've done that!

We will be in Malta in mid-June. Haven't fixed the dates yet.

You said you would give me some pointers for the Excelsior Hotel after I let you know what time of year we are going there.
We are planning on mid-June so I will have to start making arrangements soon.
We are thinking of flying to Malta first, then take the hydrofoil from Malta to Ragusa Marina, Sicily. .
If possible, I am thinking of renting a car in Ragusa Marina where we stay for 4 nights with an LL package and tour the area, then drive up North to catch the ferry to Vulcano and drop the car. On our return from Vulcano, we need to get either to Catania airport or to Palermo airport.
Hopefully, we can find a bus or train to get us to either airport to fly back to Germany.
We could start out with visiting Vulcano first, flying into Catania and doing the trip in reverse flying back to Germany from Malta.
I haven't done much research on the transportation part yet, since I was busy arranging for our Africa trip in November, but I need to get busy setting dates on our 3 LL properties and making transportation arrangements.
Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Currently having some health issues but will get back to you as soon as I can. There are many daily flights from Malta to Germany (we actually flew Lufthansa ourselves) and it would probably be easier to just fly out of MLA when you are ready to go back home.

We did book the Excelsior Hotel in Valetta for end of June. We are coming from Marina Ragusa in Sicily, taking the Ferry over from Port Pozzalo. If you get a chance, Daniel, I still would like to hear your assessment of the hotel. Apparently you had some reservation and issues with the place.

Thank you for your assessment of the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Valletta. We will make sure to watch more closely, and maybe with TravlerBen/LL's intervention, things will straighten out. We do hope we will have a good time. The pictures of the property really looked nice.....

Malta has always been on my must-see list, but unfortunately I haven't found the time to go there yet... Have heard many good things about it, however.
