Mon Hotel in Paris

Hi,



We recently spent 4 nights in Paris with a LL packate at Mon Hotel, a fancy boutique hotel near the Arc de Triomph, with a champagne welcome drink, breakfast each morning and a 50 Euro dinner or massage certificate each. The package was a steal for Paris. The room was small with no view, but the bed was excellent and there was free internet access in the room. Breakfast was good and so was dinner. The staff was friendly and accommodating when we needed to leave before the usual breakfast hour to catch the airport bus.

I can highly recommend this hotel. It's location was perfect for strolling on the Champs Elysees, not far from public transportation and smart restaurants.

Dissimulated in the small street "rue d'Argentine", you will find Mon Hotel and Mon Resto. The metro line 1 Argentine and Charles de Gaulles Etoile are a few steps away, just like the RER A Charles de Gaulles Etoiles, the RER C PorteMaillot and the BUS 73 Grande Arme Argentine. The Avenue Foch parkingis also just up the street.

I reserved a LL 3 night package at the Mon for 10/31/2009-11/3/2009. Will report back on accomodations. Hoping our room is not as small as previous post reviewed.

We recently took our first trip to Europe, with Paris being one of the stops. Before going, a co-worker gave me some valuable advice on Paris hotels. He said "think cruise ship, not the Westin" when booking a room in Paris. These buildingsare very old and historic. He said tthe roomsare smaller than American's are used to, but still lovely. It is part of the charm when visiting a new country. Probably part of the reason that many of the hotels put the room's square footage on their site. So, if you just go withthe mindset of it being a new experience and expect the rooms will be smaller than we are used to in America, you won't be disappointed and still have a great time.

We stayed at the Raphael. The first alcove suite was large but not in a prime location. We were moved to a huge (by any standards ) alcove suite for the last 3 nights. We felt like royalty. Check out the photos on the website. The location was unbeatable with a metro stop steps from the hotel entrance. Yes, it was pricey but ,when I think back onhotels in which we have stayed,I only remember the spectacular rooms and the bad rooms...Does anyone remember a plain old hotel room 10 years after the trip? A room does not have to be big to be grand and the hotel room is not what we went to Paris to see. It just happened to be wonderful.

well, we are back from our trip to Europe, all of which was great. We stayed at the Mon Hotel for 3 nights and I have been waiting to write this review. DO NOT stay at this hotel if you are looking for luxury. I am not even sure why this hotel was an option on 'luxurylink' -- we had an executive suite on the top floor (5th) that was extremely small.



Our bags had nowhere to go, so we could not unpack any clothes. There was a small exposed rack that accomodated our coats only. The bathroom was so small, my husband could not even turn around in it. The bathtub was more like a coffin than a tub and the amenities were aweful.



The staff I found to be unfriendly, they seemed annoyed to speak English, and our French was very poor. They were nice enough to bring tea to our room when we requested, at no extra charge, but seemed annoyed by this request as well.



The location of the hotel is great, the only thing going for the property, although it was hard to locate becuase the street is very small and off the beaten trail. There is a wonderful park are on Ave. Foche that we enjoyed walking through. Champs is less than a 5 minute walk and there are fabulous retaurants near by.



We ate dinner one night in the hotel, but I would not recommend it. My husbands salmon was undercooked and had to be sent back. My filet was fine, but nothing special. We only ate here becuase we needed to use the 50 dollar credit.



We left this hotel and went to stay at the Waldorf Trianon Palace out at Versailles. Much much better property for the same price!! Please, do yourself a favor and stayhere, it is much nicer and only a 10 minute train ride into Paris.

I read you review with great interest. I am sorry you were disappointed witht he Mon Hotel and found it to be a hotel to avoid. In my review I had stated that the room we had was small by American standards and gave out to the street with a view of the other buildings. However, considering the price we/you paid for this property it was a steal in my opinion. We had paid $560 (plus $40 LL fee) for 3 nights and a $100 dining or massage credit. If you deduct the $100 food credit, our nightly rate was $166.66 including breakfast, really not bad for Paris prices, especially when you do the exchange rate, it comes to about 105 Euros a night. Our closet space was limited, but there were two luggage racks which kept our suitcases off the floor. As far as dining was concerned, our meal was ok, nothing to write home about but then, the kitchen facilities are limited there and they are not known for fine dining. If you wanted really fine dining, go to the Bristol, Les Ambassadeurs, or the Meurice. You might have done better taking the massage for your $100 credit and dine somewhere else. For us, the staff was very friendly. My husband and I both speak fluently French, perhaps that was what made the difference. On the other hand, the staff went out of their way to provide breakfast for us on our last day. We had to take a 6:45 am AirFrance bus to get to the airport that morning. Breakfast normally does not start before 7:00 am. The waiter on duty made sure we got fresh brewed coffee at 6:30 am, provided us with a breakfast care package of hard boiled eggs, yoghurt, little cakes, and fruit and when the croissants and petits pain au chocolate arrived shortly after 6:30 am, he threw in 6 of them into our care package and sent us on our way well provided for and all this with a smile and a "bon voyage" sent off.



To compare the Mon Hotel to the Trianno Palace in Versailles, especially as you state a "much much better property for the same price!! Please, do yourself a favor and stay here, it is much nicer and only a 10 minute train ride into Paris." is somewhat unfair. First of all, I doubt that you paid as little as you paid for the Mon Hotel at the Trianno Palace in Versailles. Currently, the Trianno Palace in Versailles goes for $1109 for two nights including breakfast and for $1409 for two nights with breakfast and a massage. Once more, you have to contend with a train schedule to get in and out of Paris, and the train ride is more like 35 minutes than the 10 minutes you mentioned, plus it necessitates a taxi or bus to and from the hotel, unless you want to walk the 30 minutes or so it takes to the train station. Versailles is fine if you want to see Versailles, but it is a trek if you want to get into Paris.



We have lived in Paris for the past 10 years and know the Trianno Palace in Versaille and most Paris hotels quite well. We are now going back to Paris as tourists when we want to see friends there. In my humble opinion the Mon Hotel at the rate we paid was a steal, compared to most hotels in Paris and Paris LL packages. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for... If you pay for a small boutique hotel like the Mon Hotel, you most likely won't get the "Ritz" or the Raphael, or Fouquets which are all together in a different class at a different price...



Again, I am sorry you were disappointed with the hotel, but from the sound of it, you still enjoyed your trip to Europe and that is what really counts.

It sounds like you and your husband got a better rate at the Mon than we did. I booked a 3 day package on LL for 900.00 USD which was more like 1200.00 Euro with the exchcange. I booked a 3 day package at Trianon for 950.00 USD that came with full breakfast, not just cheese and breads and acess to the fabulous spa there.



Perhaps I should have used my credit for a massage at the Mon instead of using it for dinner, but the "spa" was a single room in the basement -- not exactly my idea of relaxing. My husband was very dissapointed with the exercise room. It only had three (3) machines which were out of date and poor air circulation.



Again, unless you want to stay in a small over-priced boutique hotel on a hard to find street, DO NOT stay at the Mon. You will regret it. As for the train ride into Paris, it was very simple, the Waldorf provided complementry transportation to the metro and it took 10 mintues by train, not 35 min.



We went into the city everyday, sometimes back-and-forth twice, in order to rest in between. We found it a nice oasis away from dof droppings that line the streets of Paris.

Yes, it sounds like we got a much better rate ($560+LL fee) than you did at the Mon Hotel, but $900 nets out more like 600 Euros, rather than 1200 Euros, at the current exchange rate. Did you mean 3-days or 3-nights package? If it was 3 nights, then I still maintain this is not a bad price for 3 nights in a Paris hotel in a central locaation. I must say you did very well with your package of $950 at the Trianon Palace. Again, was it 3 days or 3 nights? I have not seen 3 nights offered that low on LL. I must have missed it. The Spa there is lovely, and the restaurant/food, if you splurged there for dinner, is excellent. Chef Gordon Ramsey boast 2 Michelan stars and the quality and presentations are outstanding, although I find the new restaurant a little cold and less cozy than before it was renovated, but I guess that is the new style these days.The surroundings of the Trianon Palace are lovely and truly an oasis from busy Paris life - a wonderful place to stay if you want to visit Versailles and its parks.

Ten minutes on the RER from Versailles to the station of Champs de Mars in Paris is still a stretch, I would say... Nontheless, it is great to know that the Trianon Palace offers a free shuttle. How long did you have to wait at the Versailles RER station before the hotel shuttle picked you up? Were you able to phone them ahead of time from the train to pick you up when the train arrived?
