Hi smaller
If you haven't yet thought of including Barcelona as part of your itinerary for northern Spain, I'd strongly recommend it to you. It's the capital of the Catalonia Region and Spain's second largest city. As such, it's also a major cultural and tourist centre with many amazing attractions.

Amongthe most unique and eye-catching architectural wonders of the city are the creations of famed architect Antoni Gaudi. Several are utterly astounding in skhape and format, but a few stand out as masterpieces in my mind.
These include the entrance to the Park Gueli,
which he designed, andthe immense and still unfinished church called Sagrada Familia which Gaudi started construction on in 1882
.
I'm an architecture 'nut', so these incredible creations of Gaudi's make, for me,a trip to Spain incomplete without a visit to Barcelona. Of course, it has many more marvelous things to offer, including lots of interesting museums, galleries, fabulous restaurants and night spots, expansive parks, exciting streetscapes, and a wonderful culture and people made up of a blend of Spanish and Catalan. Go tohttp://www.aboutbarcelona.com/ andhttp://www.aviewoncities.com/barcelona.htm for more information.

We went to Northern Spain in June 2007, staying at the Landa Palace in Burgos. It is about a 2.5 hour drive north of Madrid on the road to Santander. Web site is http://www.landahotel.com/eng/homeeng.htmbut book through Luxury Links. Very good hotel, stay in the tower you will not regret it.

Hi Nigel
Utterly stunning! I checked out your link to the Landa Hotel and found the website absolutely amazing and the Spanish hotel you stayed at just wonderful. No wonder you enjoyed your recent visit to it and the Burgos area. Seems this property has many things to offer: beautiful architecture and surroundings; lots of local colour, exciting customs and rich culture; excellent food at its in-house restaurant; a fabulous pool; and many other amenities for the discriminating traveller. I've marked it down as a place for us to look into when we have occasion to travel to northern Spain. Thanx!
Curt
