Rhine or Danube Cruise?
Who has experience with river cruises on the Rhine or Danube? Looking for some advice on which river to do. I've done a river cruise previously in France, and a Viking river cruise in China. My husband and I have done several ocean cruises but he's never done a river cruise, so this would be his first river cruise.
Also, any recommendations or reviews on European river cruise lines?Life is too short.........travel now!

Friends are doing the Viking Cruises on the Danube for Christmas 2013. Great prices and great deals. Viking seems to get top marks....

Oh YES, the Douro is on my list too but I think that may be best with a girlfriend or alone (for me). Don't think my husband would like it as much as a Rhine or Danube cruise. I've done quite a bit of European travel but he's never been to Europe. He's comfortable with cruises, so that may be a good way to introduce him to European travel. Baby steps. lol He's also interested in seeing the Alps.

Love that--"baby steps"!!
Just flying over the Alps, Dolomites, Pyrenees is a thrill. I truly hope this works for you guys. We've had enough of big cruise ships and that crowd. Can't wait to hear what you choose and how plans go."wherever you go, there you are"

02-02-2013, 04:20 PMHi,
You can do both. Have a look at this Rhine, Main & Danube River Cruises
You can start in Amsterdam and then follow the Rhine River into the Rhein-Main-Donau Kanal entering the Donau at Regensburg and then go on to Vienna or even further to Bratislava and Budapest. The above link should give you a good overview of what you can visit. There are shorter tours that just do the Rhine river and there are others that go from Frankfurt through the canal into the Danube to Vienna and beyond.
We know the area very well since we have biked from Nuernberg to Vienna and back and also along the Rhine River.
Good luck. Let me know if you have further questions and I will try to answer them.

I can only second the river cruise that innocentsabroadisus suggested. This river cruise seems to hit all the important stops. I think you would love this cruise. There is so much to see, and actually, the cruise is very reasonably priced.

Both itineraries look wonderful! Enjoying waking up in a different setting every morning with out the risk of being out in the middle of nowhere, and reliving the Concordia or the Carnival cruise ship stranded in the Gulf without working plumbing. If all else fails, you are only a good swim away from civilization and a luxury hotel
.
Thanks for sharing, you have opened up my interest to something I would've never considered. Best part, the room included has a balcony. A must for this claustrophobic traveler!Ain't nothing gonna break my stride...
