04-01-2010, 12:47 PMSuggestions for Bavaria in September?
My family has signed up for a tour (including the passion play in Oberammergau) in early September. Does anyone have any suggestions on hotels or nearby activities to do at this time of year?

Without suggesting a specific hotel, you might want to have a look at HRS.com (Hotel Reservations Service) which I have been using for years. It has a lot of features including good prices, special offers, photos, distances to points of interest, etc. I live in Germany and have found it invaluable.
Good luck and have fun.

Hi ngallag,
Hi,
Sorry to be so tardy in answering you. Congratulations on booking a tour to the Passion Play. This is an extraordinary event taking place once every ten years. I am sure you will not be disappointed. As far as hotels are concerned I would suggest the Zugspitz Hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Here is the link. They have good packages with lots of extras thrown in, like bicycle rental, etc. http://www.hotel-zugspitze.de/english/index.php We book all our friends into that hotel.
From Garmisch, you will have lots of opportunities to see some of Ludwig II's castles, like Schloss Linderhof or Neuschwanstein. There is a Kletterwald for the kids http://www.kletterwald-gap.de/index.php have a look at this link which gives you an idea what to see. Unfortunately, it is in German, but you can still look at the pictures. http://www.zugspitzhotel.at/33-0-sehenswertes.html
We are in Garmisch-Partenkirchen now since we live in Garmisch for part of the year. Let me know if I can be of any help.
Kind Regards,

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I'm looking forward to researching all the new ideas and finalizing our trip! Hopefully Germany will be nice and cool (or at least not Houston temperature 100 degrees plus humidity) this August.
