Travel Spain - affordable, or expensive like the rest of Europe?
I haven't been to Spain since the late 90s but when I was there it was so affordable compared to the other Western European countries. I loved it and would like to return with my husband but these days travel in Europe is ridiculously expensive for us Americans when compared to travel in Asia, South America, etc. Is Spain still a more affordable option in Western Europe? I'm talking food, hotels, shopping, etc. I'd love to heard from people who have been recently.

As an spanish I would say that Spain still remains more affordable than France, Italy or something forbidden to us : England (the pound is so high!!)
since we have great offers to spend a week in costa del Sol, Ibiza, Canary islandsor Benidorm where most of german, belgium, english or dutch people go.
I have been in most of Europe and of course you can find good deals...it depends on how you want to travel (3 or 5 stars hotels, Iberia or other companies to fly).
In any case I will be happy to help you find a nice place to stay.

My response is somewhat antecdotal as I have not yet been to spain, but I have been doing research for a trip next winter. In the past few years, we have rented apartments and villas in France and Italy. In comparison to the prices we have paid in those countries for rentals, the prices I am finding for places in Barcelona and Seville are quite reasonable (even with the dismal $/euro exchange rate).
