03-07-2007, 07:21 PM$1602 Air Ticket for African Safari from Somak Safaris Lost
I had a less than stellar experience with Somak Safaris in California.
OMG!!! I paid $1602.00 for an air ticket on January 23rd and it was allegedly lost in the mail by the U.S. post office. Why post an air ticket when there is FedEx overnight service all over the US???
Anyway, I did not receive the replacement until Feb 15th - barely a day before intended departure, and after spending quite some time on long distance telephone calls. It was a most unnerving experience and with all the other travel agents around, I do not need the aggravation.
By the way, the ticket that was allegedly lost in the mail - never to be found!!! So I am supposed to blame the US Postal Service!! Anyway, I learnt my lesson - I went with them because they were the lowest cost but never again. End of Rant

dkiogora...why not take a few minutes and elaborate on your safari experience, how did you travel in country (with a group in a van or by private 4x4), which parks orreserves did you visit, in which properties did you stay (lodges, camps or hotels), what about the quality of your guides and games drives? These are important details for the community to learn.

Hello,
Sorry to hear about this -- I hope you enjoyed your safari once you finally arrived! I'm surprised to hear that they even used a paper ticket, when most agencies and airlines are moving towards entirely electronic ticketing which will make things like this a thing of the past.
Like Omegaet, I'm curious to learn how the rest of your trip went. Were you happy with the safari camps, guiding, and other aspects of your trip?
Cheers,
Julian
