21st Birthday celebration
Hello LL community Can you please help with ideas for my god-daughter's 21st birthday celebration??? It is great that she has asked her mother and me to join her and a friend traveling in celebration of her big day but what do you suggest? She thought Las Vegas would be good. What other suggestions do you have? We only have 3 or 4 days and it must be over a weekend. For these reasons US destinations will work best. We all live in the midwest US- just in different states. Thanks in advance for your ideas...Funtimes

I would dis Las Vegas and go for the Big Apple--if you all have passports, head south of the border. I guess it depends on her interests....oops on the passports--what about Puerto Rico--US territory--gorgeous beaches and an "international" destination....

Ok. First, which month? Another idea might be Bermuda. Lots of direct flights but you will need a passport. You will have great beaches, spas, restaurants and a "foreign" type of feeling. Another idea would be Phoenix and a dude ranch experience mixed with a spa experience. With you living in the mid west, this should be a very easy connection. I might suggest Scottsdale area for shopping, spa, neat restaurants, etc. Also consider Sedona for a different get away. What do you think?

Re: 21st Birthday celebration
Hi Funtimes,
How delightful that your god-daughter invited you! IThere are lots of wonderful weekend adventures --
If the trip is in late spring, fly into Seattle and board the high speed ferry to Victoria (see Victoria Clipper website) and stay in the Fairmont Empress. You can do the refined things ie: high tea, museums, Buchardt Gardens etc... but also lots of fun pubs and bars for celebrating a 21st birthday! (everyone needs a passport for this)
La Jolla, CA(San Diego area) is great! Lots of beautiful beaches, restaurants, night clubs etc... but you can also do Sea World, Old Town (great margaritas for celebrating one's 21st birthday) etc.
Santa Fe, NM offers something for everyone. Amazing hotels, sights, great restaurants, music etc...
Normally, I'd add in New Orleans, but I haven't been there since Hurricane Katrina, so I'm not sure how "put back together" it is.
And New York City is an absolute blast with 21 year olds! (I took my daughter and two of her friends for her 21st birthday there). There are not enough hours in the day to do NYC as it has so much to offer everyone!
And, Las Vegas is great for someone turning 21! Having had to go to many a trade show there, I do not put it on my list of places to visit, however, there are some truly amazing hotels, restaurants, shows etc. And I can remember back when how much fun it was to gamble for the first time, drink in the bars, go to shows etc... so don't discount this idea. It can really be a lot of fun if you avoid the really tacky stuff!
Have fun!

Re: 21st Birthday celebration
While we're waiting to hear which month the celebration is planned for, I had another idea that would work for most times of year - Key West. You can mix some bar-hopping with relaxing on the beach. There's a sunset celebration every night that is lots of fun. It's sort of an adult location. Based on the Las Vegas idea, I thought that's what she had in mind.

Re: 21st Birthday celebration
Thank you one and all!!! Her birthday is in mid- October. You're right I'm so pleased to be included-although I do know she plans on her Mom and me bringing cash! What else would a 21 yr old want??? I am happy to hear some responses about Vegas - I also have endured many a trade show there Yuck as far as I'm concerned but it's not my birthday I can remember first Vegas excitment. Thanks for great suggestions NYC is a good one. This gal likes glamour, shoppingand cocktails for her big day. Her Father already told me that I will probably never convince her to go on a spa vacation - I'm surprised, I know she has enjoyed that in the past.I guess for 21 - again, glitz and drinks are her priorities this trip. keep the fabulous ideas flowing!I will speak with her - sooo happy not to be stuck in the Vegas box Keep your fingers crossed that I can convince her of other destinations If not at least LL has a Venetian Vegas package of some sort. Many Thanks...Funtimes

Re: 21st Birthday celebration
If she decides to go to Las Vegas (and, really, what 21 year old wouldn't?) and there is a group of you I highly recommend staying at THEHotel at Mandalay Bay. The rooms are all suites and quite large - great if you need some space to spread out. Plus, one and a half baths per room which is key for a group of women! It is at the end of the strip so not exactly convenient to everything, but you'll probably take cabs quite a bit anyway and the restaurants, clubs and casino at Mandalay Bay are all great. If she is into visiting a club to celebrate, Pure at Ceasar's Palace is really the place to see and be seen.

Re: 21st Birthday celebration
Thanks Classenam Do you think 4 women could share a suite ? Since her Mom and I may be footing the bill -this would be ideal with one and a half baths Thanks for your advice! I've been to Mandalay, but never stayed there. If I recall the bar was nice too ...even if the barmaids wore thongs the time I was there Again...only in Vegas or perhaps Parreee (Paris). Appreciate your advice ...Funtimes

I agree Mandalay Bay is nice. It is at the end of the Strip. I found walking the entire strip to be fun. There is a tram that takes you over a couple of hotels and then you can walk/cab from there. There is good shopping between Mandalay and the Luxor and it is hard to tell where one stops and the other starts, so it makes it seem like you have a lot more to do/see. I didn't like Pure as much as I liked Tryst in the Wynn. The waterfall and table service is out of this world. The line is long (looked like over an hour) unless you get to know someone. We lucked out and a friend of a friend was able to get us right in. So make sure tostrike up conversations with folks that workthere and it may pay off.
