we stayed at the hilton at the airport on our last trip there. You can walk to the terminals so you don't have to get up too early and they have a free shuttle into the city, so not a bad deal

Hi Funtimes,
Just want to know if you will be spending some time in the center ofRome before you go back home? The reason why I'm asking is because whenwe are in the center of Rome we usually get a Mercedes to pick us up at our hotel for about 50Euros and drive us directlyto the airport.

Thank you! We tried the Hilton Rome airport and may have to spend the money - seems outrageous though 298 Euro now Yikes!

Hi Funtimes,
Here is some info that maybe will help you in Rome. I would suggest to always try to get a package from LL, because they are the best, but since you will be there for only one night here is an idea. Last year we tried a b&b close to piazza navone (great location) their e-mail is www.navonesuitesrome.com. If I would only have one night in Rome I would certainly stay in the center...we rented the Bernini Suite and loved it, but I think they may even have a selection of new rooms available this year. Good Luck! Out of curiousity where are you staying in Tuscany & Umbria. We have travelled almost all of Italy with LL, I'm telling you they are the best.
(Funtimes, I tried to log in yesterday with this info, but was unable to log in. Almost gave up!)

Hi,
we stayed at the Villa Zuccari last fall and loved it. I have lots of info about the region where to go and where to eat. directions to past parking and such at locations. let me know if you need any info. you will love it there. we ate dinner there most nights it was great. everynight all the people staying there sat on the deck and brought down some wine they had bought and just talked about where they had been for the day. a little hard to find the first time but in the directions they talk about a church can't remember the name but there were signs for it on the roads in montefalco so we always followed the signs for the church and found the villa. they are very hospitable hosts. you will love it. We intend to go back some day.

I have to respectfully disagree with two2go's suggestion to stay in Rome, and second the suggestions to stay at the Hilton at the airport- especially since you have only 1 night and your flight is so early. We took an Italy vacation with LL(Rome (3 nts) - Florence(4nts) - Rome (1 nt))in 2005 and we had a 6am flight home out of Rome too. True, the Hilton seems like a lot to pay for a so-so hotel, but it was very convenient in the morning!
The hotel seems to do quite a bit of business with the cruise-ship crowd - we saw at least 2-3 groups of largecruise-ship passengers who were finishing up their trips before early AM flights to the US. It was bustling and friendly. While not exactly the LL "feel,"
the rooms were spacious and comfortable, the staff was pleasant and efficient, and the location was perfect for what we needed. Remember, FCO airport is a good 30-45 minutes away by train or car, and you are leaving on an international flight. That means you'd want to be at FCO no later than 4:30 am, which means you'd want to leave Rome if you stayed in the city itself no later than 3:30 am, which means you'd have to get up aorund 3am. The kicker for us was having to depend on the vagaries of either public transportation (I'm not sure it runs that early in the AM) or a car and driver, versus being able to roll out of bed and walk across the street to catch our flight.
Hope this helps, and enjoy your trip!
