02-01-2012, 12:35 PMI saw photos of the proposed new seating set up in the 777s. I'm not so sure you can really tell what is going on, given the angle of the photo of the coach seating. I think the bigger issue is the shrinking of American Airlines as a company and provider of air transportation to destination I enjoy.

How can they shrink seats even further when the American population is getting bigger. It surely is no fun having to share your seat with a large, overweight seat mate who is encroaching on your space.... Brrrrhhhh....

Air Emirates has been using 3-4-3 config in coach on triple 7 aircraft. My husband was the lucky recipient of a middle seat w/POS on aisle and I got the fabulous last row middle section, right/inside.
Original concept was options of 2-4-2 or 3-3-3. Airlines had request and have AC outfitted w/additional seat.

We just flew Miami to London on AA and had the 2-5-2 configuration. While we were booked in the preferred seats section, we opted to move back to rows 33 and 34 and wound up with the entire 5 seats in both rows to ourselves. We were both able to fully stretch out and get a good nights sleep. What a lark!
It made a big difference in our jet-lag recovery the following 2 days.

That doesn't happen often but the off season travel in FEB can be such a bonus. Airport travel is light right now. It will begin picking up for soon, so your timing couldn't have been better.

That is true, but so far, we have lucked out twice in two years on the way over to Europe where we need it most. Wonder what the return trip end of February will bring, but there it is much less needed. Changing from AA to BA in London's Heathrow was rough, the walk takes forever, plus you have to go through Security all over again.

There was an article this past Sunday in the Philadelphia Inquirer about American with much speculation how they do after bankruptcy and if they will merge with another legacy carrier. Much of the article had to do with if they merge with another airline which merger would hurt Philly airport the most - they determined a merger with Delta would be the least desirable. I think American will try and stay independent as long as it can.

Just flew AA to and from South America. The flights to Miami were SOOOOO small. (I think it was a 737). My knees were hitting the seat in front. I couldn't recline because then my knees were in my chin! The 777 to South America was lovely! We were in row 36 and it was much better. The seats were wider. Also, there are free drinks during the month of February in economy class to South America (they NEVER offered, you have to ask and it was VERY DRAMATIC about getting serving.)
ps-all flights were FULL! Not one seat available. Mostly all Argentines on vacation.

Lucky you, bonniejoy,
On our flight to London, no free drinks were served. Maybe having to ask for them was the answer.
We will ask for the free drink promotion on our way back from London to Miami by the end of the month.
