American Air Got me!
OK....I just got my email with the "change of schedule." I am now going from a 2hour layover in Miami to a 6.5 hour layover!! I called AA and after the person put me on hold three times she said I had no options. I then sent an email to AA and they basically said "boo hoo but nothing for you!" Thank goodness we will have the Admiral's Club to hang out. I guess half the fun is getting there..........

Other choices
bonniejoy03....sitting in either of the Admiral's Clubs in MIA for 6.5 hours is going to get old....consider checking your bags through to your final destination and take the Miami International Airport Metrorail into the city for a couple of hours.....if nothing else, just make the loop on one of the trains and see the city from a comfortable air conditioned seat, rather than watching CNN or ESPN in the club.

Same thing - AA is cutting flights to save $ - they were going to give us a long layover in MIA also, however, I was able to make some changes and get the long layover in Costa Rica instead. No way was I going to hang out in Miami for 5 hours! At least the 1st class lounge in San Jose airport has free food, booze, a smoking lounge, etc.
I also got a schedule change on my United flight to Nicaragua in March - they are all cutting flights to save $ and fill the flights - even though these same airlines made billions in baggage fees - let's hear it for corporate greed!Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........

09-28-2012, 08:28 AMI understand what you are saying. I fly Delta and for my Oct business trip to HKG, I am having to fly 4 legs instead of 2. In the past, I flew from RSW to Detroit and then nonstop DTW to Hong Kong. Now I have to fly RSW-ATL-SEA-NRT-HKG. Besides being a killer in time and flying, it worries me about possible delays and problems. Plus I used to arrive in HKG at 7:00 pm and could be to the hotel by 8:00 pm. Now I will not arrive until after 11:00 pm and won't make the hotel until after midnight. Makes a big difference in checking in, getting food and being ready for appointments the next day. I wrote Delta but didn't get very far...

I was also disappointed to see the HKG nonstop end. I understand it's due to aircraft. That was a 744 and DTW is moving some routes/aircraft around and that is effected by crew changes. Several Asia routes will be serviced by 777L out of DTW--like PEK nonstop etc.
Add insult to injury that they routed you thru ATL then SEA???? HUH? Wonder why didn't they route you to NRT nonstop from ATL?
Well, at some future date after Nov 10, if you fly thru SEA to other Asian cities, you might have my husband as your captain. (he doesn't fly the airbus to HKG)"wherever you go, there you are"

09-28-2012, 11:20 AMKyshel,
I thought about flying the DTW-PEK route and then onward but last time I checked it got into PEK so late, that I could not catch an onward flight. I will have to recheck. I am hoping that they change schedules and everything before my next trip over. I know this trip will be hard but I can deal with one bad one. Yeah, I was pretty shocked about the SEA thrown in there but they said the ATL-NRT was full. Either way, though I still think I arrive in HKG at the same time which is not great.

AA UPDATE!! Got a call from Chase CC Ultimate Rewards...Call AA Immediately-flight change. Scared me so I called them IMMEDIATELY. Well, it was the same info as I had with AA. Now, a nice supervisor decides to assist me and tells me he will move me to a better seat. Well, 13C and D is in front of the lavatory! I say, no and he gives me 21A and B. We hang up and I realize this seat is the non moveable arm rest and smaller seats (from Seat Guru!) I call back and get yet another and plead to have my "preferred" seat changed. YEAH...we stayed in the preferred section (no benefits with this section) but moved to a "better" seat. FUN FUN on a Friday night. Now, just for fun, I look at my Ecuador seats on AA. We are towards the back of the plane and then realized there was no charge for the green or preferred seats....Hmmmmmmmm what is going on? So, moved our seats up in the preferred section with no fee. Let's see how long this lasts......

Airlines should be required to compensate passengers if flights are delayed or changed for reasons that don't include weather or mechanical failure. It's unfair that airlines can make as many changes in our itinerary as they would like to make but we're dinged if we make one change in our itinerary once our flights are booked. Just saying . . .

So far so good, our upcoming AA flight from MAD to TPA in mid-October has not been changed.
Also, our TPA - HNL and PPT - LAX - TPA flights in January are still in tact. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
