Well, the AA bankruptcy seems to have spurred some customer service activity.
We placed a refund claim with AA shortly after return from Argentina (re: a cancelled LAN flight segment). After six weeks of trading emails and providing backup data; right out of the blue and one day following their bankruptcy announcement, we were notified our claim resulted in $480 being credited back to our AMEX account.
Coincidence? Whatever, we'll gladly accept it!
I have a hunch USAir is going to simply buy AA assets out of bankruptcy. From what I know, AA has most if not all of their planes on leases. USAir could just buy what ever they wanted and forget about honoring the remaining leases.
I really don't care for USAir, but I have a strong feeling my AAdvantage miles will be going over to them soon and I will be flying USAir in the future.
I read somewhere that USAir is still saying no-thank you to AA, but perhaps they change their mind. AA does not fly into Munich, Germany, but USAir does, so this would be a good thing for us. We have found ways around AA not flying into Munich. We used to fly CDG and then buy a separate LH ticket. Now we are flying AA to London and then connect with BA to Munich. London airport charges are horrific. But we found we can get to Munich via Madrid or Barcelona and then continue on via Iberia to Munich at a fraction of what BA throug London charges.
Yep, those are high taxes levied at LHR (slightly less thru LGW). DL will resume seasonal Munich service this spring but not sure if it's via JFK or not.Quote:

One good thing about airlines filing for Chapter 11 are the promos offered to keep and build passenger traffic. American Airlines has a new promo to earn elite qualifying miles.....

Now is the best time to buy tickets and gain frequent flier miles on American Airlines.
American Airlines announced their plans to eliminate 1,200 non unionized jobs and to close Admirals Club lounges locations in Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Kansas City International Airport (MCI), Santa Domingo (SDQ) and Panama City (PTY).
Looks like the company is beginning the process of cutting costs through the bankruptcy process.
Just as long as they keep on flying - I am booked with AA for Costa Rica in November - 1st time using AA so will see how it goes.
US Airways Group Inc. wants to hook up with American Airlines. Airline mergers often lead to higher fares for passengers and a cut in routes. But industry analysts said the union of American and US Airways makes sense and would help the two carriers compete against larger, recently merged competitors such as Delta Air Lines and United Air Lines.
"A combination of the two carriers would be positive for both of them and the industry," said Ray Neidl, an aerospace analyst at New York-based Maxim Group.
A Standard & Poor's report released Friday said US Airways would be likely to benefit more from the merger than would American Airlines, which has a larger fleet and more international routes than US Airways.
Three unions representing 55,000 employees of American Airlines — the Allied Pilots Assn., the Assn. of Professional Fight Attendants and the Transport Workers Union — signed agreements with US Airways, saying they support a merger and have agreed to contract terms under such a merger.
The announcement may have been made this week because American's parent company is scheduled to begin discussion of modifying its union agreements in Bankruptcy Court on Monday — a move its unions oppose.
But nothing is likely to happen any time soon because AMR has the exclusive right to propose a reorganization plan until Sept. 28.
