Anybody listen to Will Shortz' puzzler on NPR on Sunday, May 30?
If you listened to Will Shortz and Liane Hansen on Weekend Edition Sunday on NPR yesterday (May 30), that was me who was the weekly contestant.

That's cool that your husband listens to the show. You can go to NPR.org, Weekend Edition Sunday, Sunday Puzzle, and listen to the segment. It's only a few minutes long. I would have loved to have put in a plug for Luxury Link, but we pretty much got down to business as soon as I was on. I wasn't even able to give a shout out to my family all the way across the country.
I did pretty well. The challenge was to change one letter of a word to get the name of a newspaper. Check it out. I was a little nervous and should have done better, but that will have to wait until next time.

Congratulations to you! Unfortunately I did not hear the NPR Puzzle on May 30. We are back in Europe and we do not get the program over here. However, I love the program and listen to it all the time when we are in Florida or in New York. I normally do pretty well on it, sitting in my living room listening to the Sunday Puzzle, but I can imagne the nerveousness being actually on the air. Kudos to you!

I'd rather be traveling in Europe than be on Will Shortz' show. Lucky you! I was a little nervous, but it was a lot of fun and I enjoyed being on the show. The best part was when Will and Liane read the puzzle for the next week and I knew the answer by the time they finished reading the puzzle. As soon as we were off the air, I told them the answer, and they were really impressed. That made my day. Check out the May 30 puzzle on-line at NPR.org. They used one of my puzzles around two months ago. It was anagram the nickname of a famous queen to get the name of a famous king. Do you remember that one? It was a tough one since only around 400 people answered it correctly.

thepiranha,
You did great. I did listen to the sound track of the May 30th NPR Sunday puzzle and you sounded great. I don't remember the puzzle in which toanagram the nickname of a famous queen to get the name of a famous king. It took me a while to puzzle that one out, but I think, the nicknane for the Queen might have been CLEO for Cleopatra which would make the King COLE as in Old King Cole. Is that the correct answer?

You got it! I'm impressed. Will and Liane used that one around two months ago and only around 400 listeners sent in correct answers, which is far fewer than usual. I've sent in quite a few puzzles, but that's the only one that's been used. Maybe next week . . .

Re: Anybody listen to Will Shortz' puzzler on NPR on Sunday, May 30?
Hi,
I had a friend in school who's name was Cleo. Of course, at times, we called her "Cleopatra" and she unvariable got mad and told us in no uncertain terms her name was Cleo and not Cleopatra. From there, I played around with CLEO as a nickname for Cleopatra, but I had a hard time finding a King named COLE, I was looking for a historical King, until my husband came up with Nat King Cole. So, once I accepted that he did not have to be a historical King, I also thought of the Nursery rime "Old King Cole". So, this was teamwork.

I actually listed Old King Cole or Nat King Cole as correct answers when I submitted the puzzle. Will chose Old King Cole as the correct one, but as the constructor of the puzzle, I would accept either. I received my NPR Weekend Edition lapel pin and a Will Shortz CD in the mail, but the lapel pin was broken so I asked for another one.
