After reading this article it makes me want to go but wonder if the expense is worth it.

Nope, we've discussed the trip several times, but the thoughts of crossing Drake Passage always dissurades us. We're not much for open sea sailing, so for now, we have to make do with The Penguin Encounter at SeaWorld of Florida.

Yes, I agree....love those S Africa penguins! I wished I could figure out a way to post some of my photos of them. In one photo it looks like two of them are holding hands.....so cute.

Wasn't there a Russian company that used to provide chopper service to Antarctica to avoid the rough crossings?

I don't mid the rough sea passage since I turned out to be an excellent sailor and my hubby was in the navy in the North Atlantic so he can deal with rough seas. I have a few friends who went and said it was one of the best trips they ever took especially going through the penguin colonies with thousands of the cute little guys on the shore line and they also were able to do a side trip to the research station........ but for the $ I think I would probably go somewhere else. Unless of course I won the lottery and could do many expensive tours ;-)

Never been to Antarctica, but have awaken to some pretty cold mornings in middle Tennessee. No Penguin sightings yet, but expecting one or two to drop by before the spring thaws set in.
