Thanks for clarifying. I knew it was too good to be true . That would have been pretty nice though.. Btw I just cashed in all my US air miles that I have been saving for the past decade for a trip for 2 to Thailand/Bali in the fall in a mix of First and Biz. I'm pretty exited about it because I've never even been in business on an intercontinental flight before.. So in this case I need to vote for star alliance but more specifically US air because the tickets from Europe to SE Asia were only 110k miles in first. That's a bargain compared to most airlines I can think of. I think it is 140 or 150k using united miles. Fees came to around $125 per ticket. Pretty good. Last time used miles on delta/KLM for a ticket between AMS MIA. It was over $400 and one way was in coach. Ouch.

based on ease of usage for member award travel with Star Alliance, SkyTeam and Oneworld? Of course, destination is the main determining factor, but beyond that....do you have experiences in ease or difficulties in securing seats and class of service (discounting obvious seasonal demands)?

I was just searching for some international award seats this past weekend and it's not getting any easier. Summer and early fall are a real challenge. Guess airlines are also cutting back on the number of flights they are operating.
