bonniejoy03, I don't really get the purpose of the site, other than to draw people to it and hope they can see advertising or something. I read the different qualities assigned to the traveler categories and I'm not sure I fit any of them. Anyway, thanks for posting the site. It was interesting to take the quiz!

Based on their site it looks like the company doesn't really send people to any truly off the beaten track destinations. Too bad, as the quiz was actually interesting and I had hoped to learn about some new destinations.

bonniejoy03...the "test" results rank me as Mid-Venturer, but after reading the traits assigned to each category, I really would tend torank myself between Venturer and Mid-Venturer......and I believe I am moving more toward Venturer as the years go by. It will be interesting to watch my email over the next several months to see what if any travel solicitation I receive from BTC.
Isn't this strange that most of the LL community is mid-venturer!! (Should LL take note!) Yes, it will be interesting to see what type of info we receive based on this test. From the places they list as "exciting", I don't think most would appeal to me. The only saving grace is maybe this is the standard destination listing and if you scored in the more exotic category, maybe we will be getting solicitations from more exotic and unique places! Maybe, they just want to list these places on their web site so they keep the real list truly a mystery and unique!! I can only hope that they will broaden my travel experiences!!!

I opted out of the email service, but it would be interesting to hear what sort of emails people receive from them. I don't think it's any surprise that most of us are mid-venturers -- we tend to like to go off the beaten track but we like our comfort too, though as others have said some of us are more willing to put up with some amount of discomfort in exchange for an amazing travel experience. I did bucket showers and drop loos in Tanzania, and then 'recovered' with a few decadent nights at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.

That's what I love about travel; mixing the risky/scary with the secure/safe environment. I like travel to open up more opportunites and provide some excitement. Years ago when we spent time travelling to Eastern Europe and then going to Yugoslavia for our honeymoon, people would ask...."WHY?" I heard this phrase (and don't know who to thank for the phrase.) "If you have to ask WHY, you will never understand."

I LOVE that!!!! I can't tell you how often I hear that when I tell someone where I am planning on vacationing. I never really know what to say and end up making long explanations that the person doesn't "get" anyway. From now on I will simply look them in the eye and say that. THANK YOU!
As a side, my other favorite phrase that I am reminded of frequently when I am traveling is;
ATTITUDE: The difference between ordeal and adventure.
This particularly came in handy when, in Borneo I was "mugged" by an orangutan who stole (and subsequently ate) my new camera!
That's great Syrene...an orangutan!!! I was scared of the monkeys at Gibraltor and hung out in the car! (Like what were they going to do to me....what a baby I am!!)
Yes, everytime people ask about our trip, they think we are going to third world countries, sleeping on dirt floors, and in an unsafe environment. Its funny if they would see some of our "luxury" places in the most amazing places in the world. Unfortunately, some believe that you can't get much better than the East Coast beaches or Cancun (nothing wrong, just a comparison.) Our trips never compare to those adventures. Most of the time we keep our memories to ourselves or other family members.
We are heading to Guatemala and Belize in January. Can't wait for the adventure!!! G
Needless to say, the people who ask the question "Why?" when told you are traveling to a destination are certainly not hanging out on the LL message board. When I too get that question I just think that as much as they can't understand my reasons for traveling I cannot fathom not wanting to go!

I have to admit I can't help but think, 'Why?' when I hear people here planning to go and lay on the same overcrowded beach in Spain that half of England is headed for. The idea of going to a crowded resort where holidaying Brits outnumber the locals by a significant margin isn't at all attractive.
But I suppose it's a matter of different strokes for different folks, as my friends from Kansas would say. Perhaps these are the people who would find the idea of travelling to a US state other than Florida or California adventurous...?
