Starting this week, travelers in approximately 500,000 hotel rooms will now have the ability to channel surf using their smartphones rather than using that dirty, nasty hotel TV remote control. They say that a hotel TV remote control is the germiest thing in a hotel room.

LodgeNet, the biggest provider of hotel room television entertainment, has created a free app — the LodgeNet Mobile App — that turns iPhones, iPads and Androids into remote controls.
