Every year, I purchase a copy of the Bed and Breakfast guide published by American Historic Inns. The guide contains thousands of bed and breakfasts and is arranged by state. Each state is then broken down into towns or cities. The guide itself is valuable for selecting inns, but the best part is that there is a certificate in each guide that allows you to get a free second night with one paid night. The certificates expire on December 31. I purchase several guides each winter to distribute as gifts and people are very happy to receive them. American Historic Inns ran a special last year and included a second certificate for a free night with each book purchased. I've used the certificates to stay at beautiful bed and breakfast inns in Mendocino, Santa Barbara, Austin, and other places. We're heading to Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos and using certificates for free stays on three of our six nights. No, I don't work for American Historic Inns, but I do like to travel and I enjoy helping others with their travel plans! If anyone is interested, I can provide a phone number for obtaining guides.

Thanks for the sharing the information. Anyway, where do you bought a copy of the B&B guides? Does the GCs have an expiration date?

I purchased the books from American Historic Inns. Their phone number is (949)497-2232. The website is iloveinns.com. Books cost around $25 and include a certificate for a free night at a bed and breakfast if you purchase one night. The certificate in the current book expires on December 31, 2008. Reservations are made directly through the individual inns and you must tell them that you have the certificate. There are restrictions at some of the inns. Some don't accept the free night certificate on weekends or during certain months, but I've had good luck finding available nights. There are over 1,550 inns listed in the guide, including some bed and breakfasts that are listed on Luxury Link. I hope that you found this information useful.

Thanks for the info!I'm always on the hunt for good deals on accommodations. What I thought was another good treat is that the GCs are active all year long. Really appreciate your sharing the info.

the piranha, have you done any research to see if any of the B & Bs offered in the guide book you use are also offered in packages here on LL?

I joined Luxury Link just a month ago, so I'm not too familiar with that many packages, but I know that there are some bed and breakfasts in the guide that are offered as Luxury Link packages. In fact, one of them was a mystery auction two or three weeks ago.

Sorry that it took me a few days to get back to you, but I've been extremely busy. I looked through the bed and breakfast guide and cross-referenced it with some of the listings that I remember seeing on Luxury Link. I'm sure that there are many more matches, but I found that Hanford House Bed and Breakfast Inn in Sutter Creek, California, Mountain Top Inn and Resort in Chittenden, Vermont, and Brewery Gulch Inn in Mendocine, California, have been featured on Luxury Link and are included in the guide. As I mentioned in my first post, the guide comes with a buy one night get one night free certificate that can be used at any of the 1,550 bed and breakfast inns in the book. While I have found that some of the inns have high season restrictions, I have been able to stay at several inns over the past few years and have enjoyed it very much.
