Bargain Britain!
Hello,
Normally I'd post this on the Europe board (it has also been posted there) but as many people don't seem to find their way to the destination boards I thought it was worth posting here as well, particularly after reading some discussions about the dollar / euro exchange rate.
The dollar / pound exchange rate is at a record low, about $1.36 = 1, a huge drop from $2 = $1 which was where it was at this time last year. This means that for the first time in a long time, the UK is a relatively affordable destination for people coming from the US. If you've wanted to visit the UK but were put off by the prices, this is the time to do it. Even if you don't want to travel now (the weather is awful -- I'd recommend waiting a few months until spring) if you book your hotel and pay in advance you can lock the rate in. To cover your spending money while you're here, you can get one of those foreign currency denominated cards (both Visa and MasterCard offer them) and load it with cheap pounds for your trip later in the year.
If anyone feels inspired to come to London, let me know -- it would be fun to meet up!
Cheers,
Julian

Re: Bargain Britain!
Excellent points made Jashermd. I am sure lots of people who have been considering Europe for a holiday are now more likely to come over here. I hadn't realised the dollar had dropped so much against the pound since this time last year. There are a good selection of properties on LL for Europe and I have a feeling they are going to be more popular in the next few months. Maybe there will end up being a "forum meet" in London someday as Julian has kindly suggested. Scotland is very beautiful too, so if anyone is considering coming over to this part of the world, I'm sure the few members from here, would be more than willing to answer any questions you may have.

Re: Bargain Britain!
This issue has intrigued me. I was looking at South America for the end of the year and was a little surprised at the higher prices. I finally started looking at Europe again specifically Spain and Portugal. Haven't been there since the mid-90's. LL has some great packages!! I couldn't believe how competitive the prices are compared to other regions of the world. I then priced air from the US to Europe for fall. Without any sales or deals, the price were the same as we pay to the Caribbean!!! So, looking now at Europe!!! Thanks for the notes below to put Europe back on the "radar".

Re: Bargain Britain!
Hi Jashermd,
Normally I would not not believe "bargain and Britain" in the same sentence.... but you are right! The pound is dropping against the dollar making it more affordable that in the past. And I have been noticing that LL has some seriously great packages to Europe right now, and a couple to London that were really affordable. Now if my salary would only increase, things would be perfect!
