InterestingPost! We have had wonderful travel experiences at the following:

US Ritz Carlton Chicago



Eagles Nest Whidbey Island Washington B & B also a B&B in Whidbey unfortunately now closed where the home was made entirely of natural materials - drift wood shelving, worm wood cabinets, stained glass windows etc. The owner was a former WA State senator. He built the home with his Father over six years in construction. His wife made me a birthday cake - chocolate and fresh raspberries I'll never forget it! We dined at their table made from enormous cutoffs from trees harvested in the past - privateers would cut off the branded ends to steal the wood. Their dining table was made from one of these branded ends. GREAT wish it were still operating!



Litchfield by the Sea - South Carolina this is more a condo resort but VERY nice! Private villas on the ocean.



Carribean: Tryall in Jamaica private homes or hotel overlooking a golf course and the ocean



Nesbit Plantation - Nevis they even gave us a watercolor painting to celebrate our 10th anniversary - champagne breakfast in our room and a bottle of rum that evening!



Fairmont Glitter Bay Barbados - We've been there several times - our 1st visit there I had just been laid off work - when they heard of this a fruit and chocolate tray was delivered to our room, we were asked to cocktail parties two evenings and they suggested we try many local restaurants that were less expensive than the hotel - but the real kicker was that management suggested we eat in the employee commissary where the local food was superb. Very accomodating under the financial circumstances atthat time. we will definitely return!



Fairmonts in Alberta Canada - prevoiously Canadian Pacific Hotels =Chateau Lake Louise, Banff Springs and Jasper Park Lodge all 5 star. When in Jasper we had our own cabin on a Lake with two bathrooms and a sitting room with fireplace. Great place to ski or in summer too.

I don't like big hotels and search out smaller, more quiet hotels, so my list will not include any large or chain hotels:



Best Mountain Retreat - Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop, WA... divine hotel in the grand old lodge style with a world class restaurant. Unbelievable views.



Best Mexican Beach Resort - Villa Del Sol, Zihuatanejo... it doesn't get any better than this.



Luxury in the Bahamas - One & Only Ocean Club in Nassau... away from the madding crowd.Lovely rooms and luxurious grounds.

Good suggestions C ...makes me remeber the Ocean Club and Ocean Club West in Turks and Caicos...another Fabulous resort with two locations in which to use ammenities!
