Bidding against community members
I was going to bid, at the very last moment, on the mystery auction to the mountains (Telluride) that ended today, and just as I was about to enter my bid I noticed that lhbrown was the high bidder. I couldn't bring myself to bid against him after reading, for months, all his great comments... I felt like I would be bidding against a friend... Rats! Now the LL community is creating guilt!!! Enjoy the trip, lhbrown, and send a report.

Re: Bidding against community members
CMD - I'm sure the Luxury Link people wouldn't want to hear us say this - but I've done the same thing! Probably not what they had in mind when creating the community, a slight lack of revenue as people are hesitant to bid against one another!
P.S. I'm pretty sure LHBrown is a woman...

Re: Bidding against community members
I was ready to bid on the same auction item at the last minutebut noticed lhb was bidding, so I sat it out. In the end, I should have bid, I don't think she was the ultimate winner. Guess the best rule is to law of the jungle prevails!

Re: Bidding against community members
Hi CMDAVILACLI, classenam, and travel2fun,
I very much appreciate your consideration, but you should have gone ahead and placed your bid. I would like to tell you that I did not win the bid on the mystery auction. I unknowingly outbid omegaet by $1 twelve hrs before closing time and then was outbid by $3.00 by another single bidder in the last half hour. The auction ended at $867.00, but the next day, a regular auction on this property appeared, starting at $745.00, and another $1 mistery auction for the same property appeard again. I usually try to stay close to the minimum bid, and in this case, I was quite a bit over the regular auction minimum bid , so I was actually glad that I had been outbid. My husband and I would like to go on a Dude Ranch for a 3-day overnight pack trip this fall, and I thought we could do this from Telluride, but at a closer look, the overnight pack trip possibility in the area just wasn't there. Next time, don't hesitate to out bid me, or anyone else, if you want the property badly enough. What I did notice is that in this case, there were 33 bids and some bids were as high as $100 increments which drove the bid up unnecessarily high. Why bid more than $1 on a $1 mystery auction? The effect of these high increments has been that the mystery auctions often have been more expensive than the regular auctions and wound up to be no bargain at all...
PS: yes, I am female

Re: Bidding against community members
We find that a little strange as well, when we see people bidding in such large increments on the $1 Auctions. Good for LL........they are able to induce a little bidding frenzy and improve their revenue. On the other hand, if the bidder really, really wants the "mystery" and is willing to pay for the surprise (even if in some cases it means paying more than buying the same destination (no mystery) for apotentially lower price.....then chalk it off to FUN!

Re: Bidding against community members
If I see something of interest, I'm going to bid. If there happens to be another VIP in the bidding for the prize, then I guess we just have to take off the gloves and go for it! I expect the same in return!

Re: Bidding against community members
I have always enjoyed welcoming new members by passing on some morsels of info and adding, "Just don't bid against me!!" as a tongue-in-cheek "warning" with a "hahahaha" but I REALLY meant it. (ha ha)
