Dear Community Members -
First off, let me reiterate that it is feedback just like this that provies LL with a better understanding of the user experience.
So, thank you for the thoughtful posts.
As a company, we discuss any and all site changes on a number of different levels.
And of course, one of those is as to how a change may affect a user and the overall experience on LL.
Thus, we will test the effectiveness of Proxy Bidding and how it impacts your experience before we adopt it across
all offers.
We certainly do not want users
taking advantage of Proxy Bidding to the displeasure of other users, however, we have an international audience of world travelers, and it is our hope
that this will aid our travelers so that an auction closing in the middle of the night where they are located will not require them to stay up all night to bid on it.
As always, we will announce any changes in the Community and will rely greatly on your feedback.
Cheers,
jono

Re: Bidding against yourself
Jono, Nancy, other community members..not to split hairs or get hung up on semantics but we shared the reluctanceexpressed in the preceding post by jashermd and two2go, when wesawimplementation..which sounds like a quantum or major shift with a high degree of finality in the outcome, while test sounds like a tentative examination with further assessment prior to change (at least to our ears). We would personally prefer to engage in head to head bidding in an auction rather than bidding against a Proxy, but were open to testing and could possibly be converted to all out Proxy Bidding over time.....maybe!

This is a change of subject, kind of, but I don't know how else to write directily to LL. Anyway, recently I noticed an auction for three nights in Istanbul with a minimum bid of $0.00. Its closingwas still several days away, but just for the hell of it, I bid $1.00. The bid was rejected and the new minimum bid was $800 and change. Now, I have nothing against your setting a minimum, since they usually are still a good deal. But legally, there is a real difference between an auction with no reserve (i.e. $0.00 minimum bid) and an auction with a minimum bid. I don't think that you can change an auction from one to the other after you have received a bid. I'm not really mad, since I never would have gotten it for $1.00, but if there is a minimum, it should say so in the initial posting. Somebody (like that lawyer in Seattle who sued his dry cleaner for $100,000 for his pair of pants) might make an issue of it some day.

Re: Bidding against yourself
I have seen this many times, with several destinations/auctions. However, it is not a valid auction because there is no intitial bid. I can close that page and re-open it only to get the current bid. I have also come across auctions with ending dates of 1967. It reverts to correct year after you close and re-open. Perhaps someone who is far more computer saavy than I can shed light on these phenomenas.

To LL Customer Service:
My request to the see the bid history did not imply to see the personal user information of the other bidders but simply to see the bid history onlywith the usernames to clarify whether I had been bidding against myself (which I still believe was the case).
The reason for the request was that the answers given to me over phone were that I had not been bidding against myself with the indication that this was not possible. I was never referred to the now stated policy thatLuxury Link's auction system does not support "bidding by proxy" or "maximum" bidding.
Moreover, the auction in question was a Single Auction and I have reviewed the Rules and FAQs regarding this type of auction and as far as I can tell it is not stated here that Luxury Link's auction system does not support "bidding by proxy" or "maximum" bidding.
It may be useful if LL Customer Service would indicate where this is posted (in any event the right place seems to be in the Rules and FAQs for the relevant type of auction)?

Re: Bidding against yourself
Has anyone seen a new pop-up about auction types? It may not be new because I have pop-ups blocked. It said something about Single auctions and that you may bid as many times as you want.

Re: Bidding against yourself
Hello Imbues,
No, I haven't seen that -- but then I have pop-ups blocked too. If someone has seen it, could they plaese post the contents here?
I've also seen some auctions which seen to show a $0 minimum bid -- I've found that this tends to go away when you refresh the page. It sounds like there may be a glitch somewhere in the programming of the site as this has happened every now and then for quite some time. It doesn't sound like it bothers regular users that much but I see how it could be misleading for new visitors to the site. Perhaps a matter for tech support?
Sorry for any typos -- bloody Land Rover adverts!
Cheers,
Julian
