Whooping Cranes often winter along the Texas Coast, near Port Aransas, Rockport and Corpus Christi. They are so large they are easily distinguished from the more populous Cranes, and they tend to be more private so they are farther from civilization. We go to a state park with walking trails near the bay so we can get as close as possible to the magnificient birds. The park also has a two story elevated platform that provides a great vantage point for observation. When they fly, it is breathtaking to watch. Cheers...Marolyn

Hi Marolyn We live in Wisconsin near the International Crane Foundation. This foundation is working around the world to increase Crane populations. In Neceeda Wisconsin with International Crane Foundation they are using ultralight planes to guide Whooping cranes to Florida every year - establishing migratory routes Yeah it is working! Whooping Cranes are slowly being reintroduced to the nearly extinct WI - FL migratory route. One whooping Crane stayed in front of our house - on the WI river for a day and a half last year - very exciting. You should see this program It is amazing - a person actually dresses in white etc as a surrogate parent in order to teach the fledgling birds - then dressed in costume flies the ultralight stopping - just as a real bird flock would.There are chasers on the ground also The entire process is incredible.
