Remember, we had a similar situation last year where we were able to use the 10% promo, the 30% code on select properties as well as our $250 VIP GC. I really cleaned up with this combination last year. Too bad, all these restrictions apply this year. Why is LL punishing its best customers by disallowing some of the combinations?Quote:

It's pretty early to get South Africa deals for that time frame--that IS part of high season. I can assist with some property offers if LL doesn't have availability. That's a great time to go, after the rains, pending your actual dates.

I guess you and I have never seen eye to eye on some of the LL issues. Don't get me wrong, I certainly appreciate the $250 VIP GIFT Certificates, and I think it is great that LL just "gives" them to us as a Gift. However, not everybody gets them. You have to "WORK" for them and "EARN" them with our contributions. Therefore, when promotions come along, like 40%, off that everybody can take advantage of, I do feel the VIP members are at a disadvantage by disallowing the combination of the two. I know you wrote of taking advantage of some of the promotions too last year and cleaning up. It was great! Best ever!
Of course, LL has to make money, that is understandable, but I don't think LL changed the policies because some of us got great deals and cleaned up. I have the suspicion that with so many internal changes within LL, there is insufficient knowledge of precedences from the previous years, or they are rethinking their policies too often to have a continuance of the
previous years. We will never know.....
With all that said, I still think LL is a wonderful site to get exquisite deals of "Luxury for Less" and once you have discovered this, you are hooked for good. However, what you think of "forum gripes" I think of as legitimate points. Don't be so hard on me, we are on the same page, we both enjoy traveling and writing about it, and are always in search of a good deal.

None of the packages caught my eye either.
I should have bid on the Jaguar Reef in Belize package right before Thanksgiving - it was around $850 for the 5 night package and was right in the time frame I am looking for but missed it and it ended before I could bid. It just came back up and it is the same exact package for the same time frame, etc., however, now it is around $1200. No one had bid on it and I am surprised it came back up with such a price difference. That usually only happens after it gets bid on a few times!
I've been watching a few packages that have fluctuated around $250 for a while (both up and down). Give it some time, it might go back down. Huge difference though...I am surprised!Quote:

I have to side with Kyshel on this one. Giving VIP members the same deal as non-VIP members isn't punishment. Nobody ever said that VIP members would get better deals than non-VIPS on all Luxury Link packages. I'm EXTREMELY grateful that I have been able to purchase and enjoy the many packages that were offered on this site. Yes, it would have been nice to combine the discount with a certificate, but it wasn't allowed. Nobody is being forced to buy anything that he or she doesn't want to buy. That would be punishment :).

As a VIP Member you ARE getting a better deal on the LL packages than non-VIPs by using your LL VIP Certificate which can bring down the price considerably. I too am extremely grateful for the VIP Certificates and the many great packages we have enjoyed through LL. That was never the question. The question rather was why allow the combination of promotions one year and other promotional combinations at other times, at random. There is no consistency in policy. It changes from promotion to promotion. I guess that is LL' s prerogative.

How do you know we are LL's best customers? I will say we are ALL the best forum participants--hands down! With our GCs, we diminish the $ profit LL gets for a pkg but we encourage sales to others every day, so it's the marketing tradeoff. There may be lots of other LL customers that buy much much more than any one of us does--we don't know. I see a lot of high ticket auctions on the "past" list--many cost oodles more than I spend on most of mine without applying the GC.
I understand that LL is disallowing combination promo w/GC. I wish they didn't, but it's a result of so many of US getting too much of a good deal and cutting their profitability. I think we should get the combo of one promo code + GC, but it's their business. Maybe we can say it's a two way street with a few new stoplights added.
Maybe LL will indulge us and change policy, but considering the mystery auction issues/complaints, I doubt it. We can only hope!
