Looking for a great restaurant in Boston for this weekend, a romantic atmosphere and somewhere I can get a reservation on short notice.

Reservation on short notice? An alternative to the typical restaurant is to choose your favorites at Fanueil Hall and find a quiet place to dine together outside. even in the winter, there are cozy spots to eat. Simply bundle up and enjoy the twinkling lights of the Hall.
If you want something with a guarnateed roof over your head, try Ristorante Villa Francesca in the North End. Call and ask for Tomas.

7....I have eaten many meals atand taken many clientto Gircomo's Restaurant in the North End for years....never a bad meal. There is always a line outside (no matter the weather), because they don't take reservations. Given the number of great restaurants in that area, it says something for a place that locals will stand in line to be seated.Giacomo's Restaurant, 355 Hanover St (Cross Street: North Bennet Street), Boston, MA 02113-1910enewseven wrote:

Hello,
If you enjoy seafood, head over to Legal Seafoods (there is one in Cambridge and one or two in the city). This place has some of the freshest seafood I've ever tasted, and the preparation is clean and classic (no overdone sauces which drown the delicate flavours). They often have some local oysters which I've never seen anywhere else -- they're very good, clean and fresh with a touch of the metallic. Yummm!
Cheers,
Julian

Hi jashermd
The Legal Seafood Restaurant is an excellent choice. It is a chain and the Cambridge one is definitely one of the better ones. They pride themselves on serving really fresh seafood at fair market value.
The last time we were in Boston, we went to the French L'Espalier on 30 Gloucester Street, Tel:617-262-3023. The Boston Globe rated the L'Espalier 4-star "for luxurious service and surroundings and amazingly creative cuisine". Our prix-fixe meal was beautifully composed by chef-owner frank mcclelland and his staff/wine stuart were most attentive and knowledgeable. We felt that the tab reflected a excelltent market value. They also received the wine spectator's award of excellence.

Hi Lhbrown,
I've thought about trying l'Espalier but haven't had a chance to get up to Boston for quite some time now. One of my favourite restaurants for super-fresh and innovative seafood was Jae's in Cambridge, but they closed a few years a go.
Cheers,
Julian

Boston has a lot of wonderful restaurants. The South end is a mecca of some of them. We were just at Sibling Rivalry which was outstanding.

As a former resident of Boston, I would only go to the North End if you wanted to deal with tourists, crowds and cash-only policies. It can get crazy, especially on the weekends and during any school break.
While Giacamo's is v. good, they are crowded, rushed (you get pushed out the door), I seem to remember there being a 'no-reservation' policy. (Can anyone confirm this?) Also,it's cash only, as are many of the restaurants in the North End. They are v. popular and the wait can be long. Not exactly what I would call romantic.
That said, two potential North End restaurants that I would check into (take reservations and don't require 'cash only'):
Prezza - I've not been there, but a friend strongly recommends it.
Sage - Has been listed with the best restaurants by Gourmet magazine.
A great restaurant that I would recommend is Theatro on Tremont Street. Its been a while since I've been there, butit's fabulous.Location:just past the Boston Common Movie Theaters and across from the Boyleston Street stop (Green Line). The atmosphere was great, the food very good and I was very happy with the service. (I am a service freak!) They have a wine bar and the staff was very knowledgable and friendly, without being overly so. We got a reservation the same day.
If you are willing to venture out past Italian (a hard sell in Boston I know), Oleana is worth the trip. It is located in Cambridge. Many fot he dishes are Mediterranean inspired and the Chef (and owner?) is said to be one of the best in the U.S. V. romantic.
If you can, save the North End for a fun night out - people watching, crowds, or better yet, hit the tourist magnet of Mike's Pastry after dinner elsewhere and sit with an espresso and an italian delicacy or two, not forgetting your take away box of course! This would be a great way to top off the night.
Have a great time!
(and don't forget breakfast in Harvard Square!)

Hello,
If you do the breakfast in Harvard Square, think about trying Tealuxe -- it's a tea bar right on the square with delicious cakes and pastries and more varieties of tea than you could taste in a year, even if you tried a different one everyday.
