    Re: Boston- Food ???

Great recommendations ! I wish these were posted when I first put up this thread up. When I was in Boston I ate at Abe and Louis which was a pretty decent steak house. TeaLuxe is always a must especially in the winter. If anyone likes ice cream (even in the winter) check out J. P Licks....AMAZING !!!

    Hi enewseven,

I'm glad you found some decent food in Boston. OK, so I didn't chime in with recommodations for Italian food or Seafood, but ice cream is a different story! There are many great ice cream places in the Boston area. One of my favorites is Toscanini's in Cambridge: http://www.tosci.com/

    Re: Boston- Food ???

There is another ice cream place, I think over on New Hampshirein Cambridge close to Oleana (if I remember correctly.) I can't tellyou what the name is, but they make the most amazing ice cream and sorbets. The last time I was there, they had this incredible Champagne sorbet. They didn't make it often when I lived there, but it was worth the wait for it to be listed again on the menu. They specialize in making unusual flavors, so you never know what you will find when you stop in.

    Hello,

I'd like to add Herrell's to the home-made ice cream and sorbet list. I used to go to the one in Harvard Square regularly when I was at Harvard -- they had this great thing where they would 'smoosh' all sorts of yummy goodies into your ice cream. I had a friend who loved the gummy bears though I could never stomach them! The freshly crushed Oreos, on the other hand...

Reading this web site is making me search for excuses to go back to Boston!

    Cheers,
    Julian

Yes, Herrell's in Harvard Square is excellent I was actually there during my most recent trip (the burnt sugar flavor is a must !!). We actually stayed in Cambridge during our last visit. The hotel was new. It was called Hotel Marlowe (A Kimpton Hotel, which also owns Nine Zero which is very nice as well) I recommend this hotel if any of you are visiting Harvard or The Cambridge area, the hotel has great service, a trendy boutique setting, and it's actually attached to a shopping mall which is great in the winter because you won't freeze outside if you need to do some quick shopping !

    Hi Enew,

Aaaahhh, the burnt sugar ice cream at Herrell's! I remember being there during one of those spectacular Boston summer storms, and coming out licking my cone (Irish whiskey flavour) to see night turn to day when a lightning bolt struck the roof of Cambridge Savings Bank. Just thinking about it is making me drool.

Thanks for the hotel rec -- Cambridge has long been lacking a decent boutique hotel. Does every room come with a friendly Labrador on the couch?

    Cheers,
    Julian

    Hi Julian,

The friendly Labrador does not come with each room however, this hotel is one of the most dog friendly hotels I've seen. They actually have a welcome sign for the dogs that are staying with them with its name listed right above a big dog bowl filled with water and another one with food ! Needless to say my dog did not come with me on that trip and probably would have loved it there LOL

    Re: Boston- Food ???

    Hello,

This reminds me of something else I read about a hotel in Boston which makes me wonder if Boston is a uniquely dog-friendly town.

The Fairmont Copley Plaza hotel has a 'canine ambassador' (Catie Copley, a friendly black Lab) who does come with your stay, in that you can pet her, play with her, and take her for walks if you're missing your own pooch. But you may need to book in advance -- some people call up to three months in advance to book a walk with Catie, and there are guests who choose the hotel specifically to see her. Here's a brief article on Boston's most famous dog:

    Re: Boston- Food ???

Julian and enews, I just responded in the "Dogs" thread regarding your comments here in re: Kimpton Hotels - Julian your post about "Catie Copley" reminded me of another fun pet friendly aspect of Kimpton's hotels (at least Hotel Monaco) - you can borrow a goldfish during your stay! Julian, as a frequent solo traveler perhaps you'd enjoy having a little, hassle free companion to keep you company.
