Calling the Dubai Expert!!

Mary-J ... or anyone else who has thoughts on Dubai:



I recently posted a comment regarding my fiance's uneasiness of flying through Dubai. Thanks to a few posts and other research, I have convinced her that it's not only a safe city, but that we should also stay for a few days to visit. Hence my question: can you recommend the best area in Dubai to stay? We will be returning from 12 nights in the Maldives, so we are likely more interested in touring the city and sights rather than relaxing on the beach.



Also, can you recommend nice yet reasonable accommodations in that area?

just to let you know thatI have seen your post and will answer it later today asI am busy at the moment. I will have some suggestions on hotels which are quite central but Dubai is a city which is quite spread out but taxi's are very very cheap. You have the choice of staying in the Bur Dubai area or near the Creek, which is a more traditional area, but both would be excellent for sightseeing andfor shopping.

I have only stayed in hotels in the Jumeirah Beach area but there are lots of nice hotels in the city which would be fine if you are intending on being out most ofthe day sightseeing. I f you are looking for comfortable, clean accommodation but handy for sightseeing and going to the shopping malls then the Ibis on Sheikh Zaheed Road would be a good joice. also, a good priced hotel would be Golden Sands in Bur Dubai or Arabian Courtyard. If you are looking for something a little more upmarket, but still a good price then I would go for Hilton Dubai Creek. This hotel is centrally located and has an excellent rooftop pool with amazing views over Dubai. It also is home to La Verre which is Gordon Ramsays restaurant. If you did decide to go for this hotel then I would recommend pre-booking this restaurant if you wanted to dine here as it gets sold out weeks in advance.Another couple of upmarket hotels which are very nice are the Emirates Towers(this hotel is a well known landmark in Dubai) and is famed for its shops, with some excellent bargainsat it's designer shops inside the hotel. Another hotel which I have always liked the look of when we pass it coming from the airport is the Grand Hyatt. This is also close to the airport and has some wonderful restaurants. If you go on to trip advisor then you can read some of the reviews from these hotels. As I said taxi's are very cheap so it won't be a problem if you are a little bit further away from somewhere you wanted to visit. Also the Dubai Forums on trip advisor is an excellent site to go on as it has a wealth of information from regular visitors to Dubai. Hope this helps but if you need more specific info then just let me know. Although you said you did not want to be at the beach area, I would dfinately recommend going to the Burj Al Arab. This is a place you have to experience once in your life. You can go for afternoon tea there, and that alone is an experience in itself.I would try and book this ahead of arriving as it is very popular. You must also try to do the Dune bashing. This is a brilliant excursion where you are taken in to the desert and have an amazing journey over the sand dunes....but not just a ride over the sand, this is an exhilirating ride over huge dunes, and is absolutely brilliant- highly recommended. Also try to visit the gold souk and you must go to the shopping malls, especially the Mall of The Emirates, complete with it's ski-slope and REAL snow. If you have time, it is nice to have dinner one evening on a traditional Dhow which sails up the Creek. There is also the Big Red Bus tour which will take you all around Dubai therefore you get to see the "old" and the "new" Dubai and you can hop on and off whenever you want. If you read my other post about things to do in Dubai, I am sure you will find more information which I have written. Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding and I hope you both have a wondeful time in Maldives and Dubai. Which resort will you be staying in while at the Maldives?

in regard to dubai,i think the response that maryj gave was very good,dubai is a great place and so many things to do from shopping,relaxing,ski ing and many more



the nice things about dubai is that you have the hotels that are sheer class and luxury,evn the small ones are very nice,i have stayed in the arabian courtyard and i do like this a lot,its right in the centre of bur dubai and if u want to shop and get clothes made, this is the place to be



they can make up suits to dresses in a matter of days and anything u want really
