Can anybody recommend a decent budget hotel in Venice, or Florence?
I'm heading to Venice and Florence and would like to stay in a decent inexpensive hotel for three nights each. Does anybody have any recommendations?

My nephew is there now and from the photos, you might want to wait a bit before you head to that part of the world!!! He is studying abroad and they look like they are having a FANTASTIC time!!! However, I don't think you would want his hotel recommendations. I seem to see about 6 people in the "room?"

P--we've stayed at the Ambasciatori--E1 short bus ride direct road to Venice--lets out by main car park/ferries (right side), $$ hotels, walking access to canals to the left. Very convenient. You should be able to get a good deal right now. Nice bfast and local restaurants are well-priced compared to islands. Very nice staff.
Hotel Ambasciatori - Official Site - hotel near train station mestre - hotel 4 star mestre venezia
Current rates look like E54 up. VCE transport is E5/pax
I think you'll like the neighborhood--tree-lined streets and small restaurants (I think there is a grocery nearby, too) The bus might be 5- 10 minutes over causeway to Venice.Last edited by kyshel; 09-19-2012 at 05:48 AM.

09-19-2012, 06:41 AMI stayed at the Hotel Carlton Capri when I was in Venice and we were pretty happy with it. It is walking distance from the train station, so also near the vaparetti stops. They gave us a big room with a balcony and the breakfast was included I think.
You might want to consider staying in the Chianti area instead of Florence and just doing a day trip to Florence. We absolutely loved Tuscany.

Bummer--did you ask them for a referral to another hotel or cancel notice?

What about Ca'Pisani? With a GC, you're talking $100 US per night. Even if you don't have a GC, it's under $500 today, nice perks included, for 3 nts.

Today's Deal of the Day was Ca' Pisani Hotel in Venice, but when I clicked to view it, it was no longer offered. Maybe it was such a good deal that it sold out early in the day?? piranha, did you get one of those Ca'Pisani Deals of the Day today?

ABSOLUTELY!!! I noticed it at around noon PST today and jumped on it so fast that my keyboard started smoking
. I looked again to see if it was still available and it wasn't, so it's possible that they have only one package available every day for this sale. Thanks for the heads up.
