The Chanler at Cliff Walk, Newport, Rhode Island
The Chanler at Cliff Walk, Newport, Rhode Island
I've been considering this property and compared the current prices on their website. LL's initial bid of $695.00 is an excellent price for this Inn. The lowest cost rooms are at least $320 a night Sunday to Wednesday, but most are $400+ in November. The rooms are all uniquely decorated and gorgeous. Most of the rooms have a double jacuzzi and separate shower, some granite and some marble. Here are the links to the possible rooms with LL's offering. The only problem is it is only valid for arrivals Sunday through Wednesday, between October 15 and March 31, 2008,

I've visited Newport before and the Mansion tours are fantastic. It's a American history experience and the package includes tickets for them all. Their restaurant the Spiced Pear has an interesting menu and a bit pricey, but LL's offering includes dinner. Yeah!
Has anyone stayed here before?

yes, we stayed at the Chanler a few years back, booking with a LuxLink package.
It was mid-week in March, so a drap time of year, but it was a great price. I do recall the room we had was not in the main mansion, but in another outbuilding. I think they called it a 'villa', but that was overselling it a bit. The room was not as nice as it appeared in the pics (so often the case), but overall a nice experience.

Thanks Cruisinred, it's always helpful to hear from the experienced. I know the time of year offered sucks. Even April or May would be more appealing. The only other reason I've considered this package was to visit with a friend that lives near Newport. The time of year might be too depressing for me since my friends sister (also my friend) died last year at 43. So, I might blow this one off and stay some where else in the warmer months. Thanks again.
The pictures were nice to look at anyway.

Hi there.
I haven't stayed at this property, but I couldn't be more familiar with its location and surroundings. I'm a native Rhode Islander and I know Newport like the back of my hand (so feel free to ask me questions).
Here's the thing about the time period...yes, the weather may be a little dreary. You certainly won't be going to the beach (unless you bundle up). But as someone who lives here, I actually PREFER Newport in the offseason. I rarely go in summer, as it is too overrun with traffic and tourists to be much fun. But it is a beautiful city at all times of the year and I think its charms are even more apparent in the winter/early spring when it's quieter. There's still much to see and do. Ocean Drive is perhaps even more gorgeous on a gray, winter's day. And you'll have an easier, more relaxed time with a wealth of excellent restaurant's to choose from. The Chanler has simply the most gorgeous location, overlooking First Beach and it's near everything. Honestly, I'm a warm weather gal, but Newport in the offseason is not to be missed. Hope this helps.

Thanks Fred, I appreciate your input here. I still might make it to Chanler Cliff, but with a few other New England properties calling me next spring, I'm not sure yet. I love Newport, it's the best seaside town to visit, IMO. It's definitely in the top three on my list. Of course the option maybe gone by the time I make up my mind.

Thanks again for your comment, it's much appreciated.
