Is Cheeca Lodge in Florida Keys gaming LL members?

On 4/1/08 Cheeca Lodge has $2,175 retail item with min bid of $849, and same item for "buy now" at $1,289. On 4/2, after 3 bids, next min bid is up to $920. Today, 4/3, 4th "bid" was $1,250 making next min bid $1,270. This bid is not over until 4/4, and "buy now" good thru 4/28/08 for this same package is only $1,289. Surely no one would be dumb enough to jump the bid $350 before the close when the "buy now" is available for 24 more days at just $39 more. Something stinks on this one.

wow, it's good you noticed that. i don't know either. maybe there are just a lot of bidders interested in the package...

You're right, it does look a little bit fishy. It doesn't make sense that the auction price would be so close to the buy now price. The person with the high bid is kshuror and only he/she knows for sure what's going on. Do you think that the person with the high bid works for Cheeca Lodge and is trying to drive up the price?

That cetainly occurred to me since there are 5 "buy now" packages available good until April 28, and the "bid" package jumped within $39 of the buy now price with 3 days left to go before the bid pkg expires.

Is there a way to contact a Luxury Link member? If so, you might want to contact the high bidder to see what's going on.

Further to this... the last Cheeca Lodge package sold on 3/31 for $1315.00 for the same offering! That's why it pays to really review each package and see what other options are available for the same property. Sometimes it is cheaper to purchase it not under the "auction" portion as the price can be driven up to the point it doesn't make sense. We're all looking for the great deal, and there are plenty of them available through LL... but once in a while, the prices go a little wacky because of bidding.

I doubt a property would bid to "jack up the price". If they win then they have to pay LL. It's probably bidders that are caught up in the bidding and don't know about the other options.

I'm not sure what the financial arrangement is between Luxury Link and the businesses that are offering the packages, so I don't know who benefits if the price goes up for a package. I'm still relatively new at this, so I'm curious how everything works. By the way, I've enjoyed reading some of your posts.

Hi thepiranha, I just doubt that LL would conspire with a property for make a few extra dollars. If someone from a property cared enough to bid on a package to boost the price then they may get stuck paying for it.

BTW: I enjoy some of your posts too.

Hi Imbues and Pirhana I agree that the bidder would have to pay so it only stands to reason that these are people caught up in the auction - bidding frenzy This often seems to happen with Red hot auctions that go for much more than recent property history shows Hey Pirahna you wanted to know how to reach another member _ Just click on the member name, scroll down to the send a private message option and compose a message only for that member happy travels ...Funtimes
