Do You Cobbler Packages?

Do You Cobbler Packages?
Some time back (maybe a few years), the community/lounge members discussed their general approaches to buying travel packages.
Some indicated their purchases normally consisted of a 2, 3 or 4 night stay (maybe a long weekend or in conjunction with a business trip), while others focused their efforts on buying two or more packages and cobbling them together for an extended holiday ( week or more at several destinations).
Are your buying trends the same these days or have you TheBull.jpgchanged your overall approach to Luxury Link travel?Last edited by omegaet; 06-30-2012 at 05:49 PM.

I look at both; big vacation purchases and then the short term weekend get away.

06-19-2012, 05:52 AMOnly a short trip with Luxury Link here and there. Most of my stuff is stitching together two or three auction packages for a longer vacation. I did that in Belize and of course, I put together three packages for my last adventure in Peru. Sometimes it gets a little complicated putting packages together with availability issues and expiration dates pop up.
That's when I'm glad to have Dena and Jim on call.
No changes in my approach over the past few years. No adjustments needed.

I usually cobble together a couple of packages for my annual 2 week trip - when I did Mexico last year, I hooked 3 LL packages together with no problems. Since more stuff has been popping up close to my home town, I have just started doing long weekend packages

I think it all depends on where you are going - I had no problems hooking the 2 Nicaragua trips together that we are doing March 2013. I usually try to find packages that I know probably will not have too many bidders - usually I am the only one bidding. I have noticed the Jicaro Eco Lodge in Nica had a few more packages sold - I have been waiting to see if anyone writes about it but it must not have been a regular that won the other auctions.

06-23-2012, 10:15 AMdenise, I don't think the bid activity is a necessary indicator of space availabilty at specific hotels. I know on my last trip, the one to Peru, which involved multiple hotels, there was few days that didn't work for one of the potential bookings.
In the overall picture, it really didn't cause a problem for me, since I was able to switch the sequence in which I visited other hotels.
Now I tend to contact the property directly and lay out exactly what I want to do and the dates I need. If everything looks good with all parties - I hit the buy button.
