Dude Ranch and Overnight Pack Trips out West - Wyoming
Hi,
Does any one have personal experience with Dude Ranches and Overnight Pack Trips in Wyoming, Montana or Colorado, Dude Ranches you could recommend?
I would love to hear from you. I am trying to put a Dude Ranch trip with a 3 to 4 night overnight pack trip together for beginning of September of this year.

LL-Travelfan....we have very close friends that stayed at Dunton Hot Spring www.duntonhotsprings.com last year.....after seeing their photos and listening to their comments, we suggested the LL Sales Team contact the property and sign them up.....a little pricey....buteverything indicatesit is a one-of-a-kind place....LL now offers auction packages.....why not spend a little of your VIP Certificate money and live it up!

We have been going to The Home Ranch, Clark, Colorado for about 10 years and we love it. But do not know if they do pack trips in September. It is about 25 miles north & west of Steamboat. Absolutely gorgeous, raise a lot of their own horses, the horses are released to free range pasture every evening and brought back down every morning. Great food and people. You might see if what they offer is what you are interrested in.

Hi O,
Thanks for your suggestion of the Dunton Hot Spring. I will contact them to see if they will incorporate pack trips into a stay at the Ranch. I looked at the pictures and it looks lovely. Sorry to be so long answering, but we just got back from Budapest, Prague and Nuernberg where I used some of my VIP Certificates -- I also booked at Bellvue in Cogne, Italy and Hotel Gruener Baum in Austria with my VIP Certificates for June, so I am fresh out of it.... Too bad these VIP Certificates were cut in half, they went a long way for paying for hotels over here in Europe. We just saw the Dollar sink to new lows. 1 Euro costs now $1.5787 + 3.5% for credit card charges....

Hi godowney,
Thanks for suggesting The Home Ranch in Clark, CO. We have been there. A wonderful and unique Relais & Chateaux Ranch with an excellent riding program, and as you say, great horses, great food and wonderful people. Unfortunately, they do not do any overnight pack trips. I have found a few ranches that do overnight pack trips, but I am still researching this trip. Thank you again.

Hi travelfan
I'll be very interested in hearing which Dude Ranch you finally decide on for your trip out West this September. Both my wife and I love to ride horses, but are not very experienced at it yet, so we'd be happy to visit a resort where the mounts are 'mild'. We did some trail-riding in the mountains of northern Costa Rica on our last trip there.
While the horses were very well-trained and gentle, some of the trails we followed as part of a group of about a dozen riders behind an experienced guide, were very rough and often quite narrow as well as steep. This made for some harrowing moments especially as we waded across some wild and stoney creeks high up on the mountainside! Thanks.

Hi Curt,
Your pictures look great. Thanks for sharing them. I sofar have narrowed our trip out west down to two ranches that do Overnight pack trips. One is The Six Heart Ranch near Jacksonhole, WY (www.heartsix.com), the other one is the Allen Diamond 4 Ranch in Lander, WY in the Wind River Range (www.diamond4ranch.com).
The Six Heart Ranch is more comfortable and the Allen Diamond 4 Ranch is really rugged, but mountain scenes look spectacular. I am still working out details and cost. Will keep you posted on what we decide.

Hi travelfan
Looks like you've picked two excellent Dude Ranches out west to choose from. I like the Six Hearts because of the amazing setting within view of the snow-capped Tetons of the Rockies in a location not very far north of Jackson Hole. But I'm sure the Allen Diamond would be just as wonderful a resort to unwind, ride horses, and soak in the Western atmosphere. Glad you'll keep the LL Community posted on your choice. The photos you included in your post add another terrific dimension to your informative contribution.
