What a great idea for a promotion! I have been watching the exchange rate for the euro vs. dollar drop for awhile now, keeping an eye on LL for offers. Can't be a better time for a trip to the area. My friends and I have been talking about the exchange drop and the associated countries falling economic problems. We view it as a travel "shoppertunity" and a good time to look at taking trips that perhaps might have been financially out of reach in the past.

After watching this video, I understand a lot more about international finances:

The sad part it one can hardly laugh at the message content
Good to update the Euro value against the dollar and it's a good thing we don't carry much $ over from trip to trip"wherever you go, there you are"

Re: Euro = favorable exchange rate
katie, maybe it is the way I look at things, but until the Dollar and the Euro reach parity I can't see Europe as a bargain.

Re: Euro = favorable exchange rate
t2f, I agree, but it's all relative. The dollar and euro haven't been one to one for a long time and we may not see that happening for many, many years.

t-2-f...the question you might consider is how the value or buy power of your dollars will hold up during the time you are waiting for parity with the Euro.

Re: Euro = favorable exchange rate
The dollar and the euro haven't been at parity for the last 10 years. The euro went as high as 1 Euro was equal to $1.62 and that was horrible living in Paris. However, at $1.19 it is not so bad. You just have to know where to look where the values still are. Southern Germany, for instance, holds many bargains. Take the 4-star Grand Hotel Sonnenbichle in Garmisch-Partenkirchen with spa facilities, for instance. This hotel goes for about 100 euros on e-bay.de (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...sPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT) for 2 nights/3 days, including breakfast, and with a "Kurkarte" which allows you to freely ride the citi-bus, gives you a 25% reduction on the Zugspitzbahn, gets you a free entrance to the Alpspitz Wellenbad, gives you a Euro off on the Partnachtklamm spectacular flume, and many other bargains too numerous to name. A 28 Euro Bayern-Ticket http://www.bahn.de/regional/view/reg...rnticket.shtml lets you and 4 other people travel freely on the Bavarian Regional trains for a day, including free buses, U-bahns and S-bahns in Munich. A 3-star hotel for 2 nights with breakfast and free city transportation in Munich can be had for more or less 100 euros on e-bay.de.(http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...sPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT) And Lunch for two runs about 18 Euros with a 1/2 ltr beer and 1/4 ltr wine. Coffee and cake goes for about 3.20 euro per person. Unfortunately, Luxury Link is not looking in the right corners. Germany is still a bargain, and so is Austria and Italy, in particular the Dolomites, the Val Gardena and Merano. Have a look at the Quellenhof in Merano http://cgi.ebay.de/Quellenhof-Sport-...tem51934a297b. We have been there, and the place is fabulous and it includes all meals, etc. Why Luxury Link is not taping in on some of these hotel bargains that ebay.de is offering is beyond me. I would love to see Luxury Link offer more properties in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland beyond the old standbys that have been on LL's list for years. Here is a market that has been untapped by Luxury Link and LL is losing big time to ebay.de.

Re: Euro = favorable exchange rate
Very interesting. I didn't realize that hotels sold packages on Ebay. Is that just in Europe or do they do that in the U.S., too?

Re: Euro = favorable exchange rate
LL_Travelfan, I realize the time period since the Euro and Dollar were at parity. I have also noticed and continue to observe the recentprecipitous dropping of the Euro vs the Dollar. I have patience.

Hi thepiranha,
Yes, you can find vacation packages and hotel packages on US e-bay as well, but the European offerings are mostly done on www.ebay.de (Germany). The inconvenience is that they are all in German, at least I have not found a choice of languages on this e-bay site.
