Europe is still not a bargain for me - do not get enough bang for the buck. That is why I head to Latin America - In March when in Mexico, I got 12.5 pesos for the dollar - can not beat that! I also noticed that the pound sterling did really good in Mexico - they got 16 pesos to the pound - lots of Brits were in Mexico!
I have not been in Europe since the end of 2000 - did really well in Paris with good exchange rate - of course it was in francs and not euros during my trip there.

06-20-2011, 07:30 AMYou are so right about most of Europe--I flip at some of the meal/beverage costs. transportation is way up, too, so getting around gets very costly!
We still get pretty good value in Central EU--Prague and Budapest and it's because they aren't on euros.. SO many Italian and German tourists in both cities for that reason aside from the city's beauty!
Some of the best bargains on LL are Central Europe!
Side note: peso was 11.2 last week--you did well!"wherever you go, there you are"

Its funny comparing rates for food/drink around the world. We paid about $10 for a beer or wine in Sweden. Friends were on a cruise to Bermuda and were paying $8 for wine and $12 for a mixed drink. I was shocked about the cruise prices! Sweden didn't look so bad!

Cruise prices for beverages have been high for the past few years - some lines are higher than others.
I have seen some good bargains on LL for the Greek Islands and was wondering about going there - I believe they are on the Euro but with their economy in a shambles there may be some really good deals on dining, etc. in Greece - can not decide

Greece has some great deals. Friends are in Greece right now. Athens is a little crazy with periodic protests. We are heading there next year. LL has some auctions showing for 2012.....

not wishing to change subject but I found this and posted it an airline website forum:
Athens Vacation Rental - VRBO 312524 - 1 BR Attica Apartment in Greece, Acropolis "Love Nest",Panoramic Acropolis View,Private Balcony
The apartment looks very EUropean--as in compact but that terrace is gorjus!! nice view, too.....85-110E
Might make a good base for a few days then grab ferry to one of the LL deals in the islands..."wherever you go, there you are"

We are heading for Paris next week and we expect some hefty meal prices while there. The euro has dropped some, but not enough to call it cheap or a bargain. But then, Paris restaurant prices have always been notoriously expensive, especially the Michelin stared ones.
The south of Germany remains affordable, especially if you live and eat the way the natives eat, and you can't beat the beauty of the Alp.

Have a great time in Paris, LLTF. I agree with many of the above posts that Europe is very expensive. That's one reason why I usually go to Mexico and my next trip is to South America. I don't like the feeling of getting gouged for everything that I buy. I don't usually buy any souvenirs, but if I'm paying exorbitantly for food, lodging and transportation, I'm not going to be happy.
