I gotta say this is a pretty thorough article (with diagrams) that explains alot about boarding a flight.
I liked the logical approaches of some, dissed the Spirit one (they force pax to check bags anyway--saving $2 is moot)

But, just seeing how trimming a few minutes boarding time on every flight for a large legacy carrier can save alot of $$ is fascinating.
This is an interesting article and the comparative simulations are even more entertaining and informative. If you fly a bit as a business traveler, boarding (and deboarding) can be sooooooooooo frustrating). For me, it's the struggle (maybe 'conflict' is really a better term) for overhead bin space.Quote:

Hard to say, but standing in the aisle waiting for that/those individuals to find overhead bin space gets to be old quickly. Also, I live for that/those individuals, who seem to board last.....walk the entire length of the cabin and manage to find bin space into which they wedge their treasures for the flight.....then, after landing, they insist on fighting their way back through the passengers to retrieve that bag/package....causing further delays.
Sure is more fun flying at the front of the bus!
Oh yeah!! Fight for bin space is a whole 'nuther story. Your example of the late boarder missed a point--his/her bag is oversized just a "tad".
And how they squeeze it in, I DO NOT NOT WANT TO WITNESS. Most of my domestic flights are RJs so it's "pink tag" at the gate anyway.
And, of course, I'm one of the last to board (unless upgraded).
I didn't think about all the other demographic quirks. Good point!
Boarding is such a hassle.
And the fights for overhead bins are crazy!
I don't think any system works well for coach passengers.
