i'd like to visit a friend in Florida and have a quite time and relax, where in Florida can I get a peaceful and relaxing place to stay?

St Augustine is an interesting option if you want ocean/history/charm.

Melbourne or Stewart areas aren't too touristy.
Some of the old inland towns were featured in Aurthur Frommer's Budget Travel--rented car, drive-in restaurants, etc. Sorry--can't recall which issue. Probably on the website.I think you still drop off cars all over the state without any extra charges (most major rental companies)

Some of the upper keys are relaxing and very low-key (pun intended)

matthewlawrence26...what part of Florida will you be visiting to see your friend? Do you require "beach time" or will inland Florida work? We have a big state here and we had a variety of options. The Everglades also offer some interesting "drop out" and "live in nature" opportunities. We have a unique resort in the keys that will allow you to spend a night "underwater." What about a budget? LL offers a couple of interesting auction opportunities in less congested areas as well.

Hey, did you really take that picture in Florida? Where? How big was the telephoto lens?

mountie.....yes! Just south of Allegator Alley (aka I-75) at the intersection of SR-29. Taken with a Nikkor 180mm. Estimated length of the Gator was 1.5 meters nose to tip of tail!

yes i would like to go to a nice beach. not so crowded beach though. I want to go somewhere that has few people.I will be visiting my friend on june, and I want to spend time with her on a beach.

matthewlawrence26....what part of Florida? We have approximately 1,200 statute miles of coastline and roughly 665 miles of dedicated beaches here in Florida. You have a wide variety of choices.

Check out Vennice. fun litle town with a nice quite beach.

Depending whether you want to go to the east cost or the west coast, my vote would fall for Sarasota, Siesta Key, FL on the west coast of FL. As to your question on best US beaches, I would have to say that Miami South Beach beach was voted No. 1 and Siesta Key Beach was voted No. 2 in a recent poll as best beaches in the US. I personally favor Siesta Key Beach since we live there on a partial basis. Siesta Key Beach is unique in the sense that it is made up of quartz which translates into a totally white fine sugary sandy beach where the sand stays cool to the touch and you won't burn your feet not even at high noon. Also, Sarasota is a great cultural hub with its first class Ringling Brothers Museum, its Van Weizel Opera and Symphony and lots of small theaters. Also it's Saint Armands Circle offers first rate restaurants and luxury shoppingl Instead of a hotel, I would suggest a luxury 1- or two bed-room condo rental with water view for a week which can be quite a bit more cost efficient and fun. I know the Sarasota, FL area very well and I have done numerous posts about Sarasota's attractions on the Florida Destination Board. Have a look. Sarasota has an awful lot to offer.
